I am trying to find the parents and baptism of Thomas William GAGEN born about 1794 in Poplar. The family seems to have several baptisms at St. Dunstans. Stepney. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi
All Saints Poplar in the then hamlet of Poplar was a chapelry of St Dunstan Stepney until 1817 when it became a parish in its own right so you might expect dual entries in both registers or an entry in one and then the other.

Hi
Baptisms of children of Thomas (sawyer) and Elizabeth Gagen
Thomas Gagen
21st June 1797 All Saints
19th July 1797 St Dunstan's
Aleamia Elizabeth Gagen
20th October 1799 St Matthew Bethnal Green
The likely marriage of Thomas to Elizabeth was at St Dunstan's Stepney 31st August 1794 - Elizabeth Allen both of the hamlet of Poplar bachelor and spinster
In the same year there was another marriage of a Thomas Gagen at the same church. This Thomas Gagen was a widower of Waltham Abbey in Essex. The marriage was by licence to Aleamia Brown a spinster of the parish.
Aleamia is a distinctive name and appears again in both Thomases and John's descendants.

That is fantastic. My great great Grandmother was Alcamia GAGEN born 1810 in Terrington St.Clements, married in 1830 in Whirechapel. and the tree I have built of the GAGEN family in Norfolk had an unknown link to Poplar and St.Dunstans. This information has confirmed the link and completed my 39 page tree. Thanks again.
