Title: Fallons of Scrine
Post by: Casa23 on Wednesday 14 November 12 14:55 GMT (UK)
I am trying to trace my family, the Fallons.
Information that I have so far is:
Patrick born aprox 1874 married Anne ? Born aprox 1888 in Co Meath. They married 1910.
Patrick's parents were John and Mary ? He had 1 brother called Michael (1878?).
I would be very grateful if anyone was able to supply me with anymore information.

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

From your information, I assume you have the family in the censuses?

Fallon family (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Roscommon/Athleague_East/Skrine/1669356/)

Hi
Thankyou for your reply. Yes ,all the info I have is from the 1901 and 1911 census.

...

I believe Ann's maiden name is Donoghue - there's a likely cross-match on the BMD Index as follows in the correct registration district for Skrine  townland.

  Name: Patrick Fallon
  Registration district:   Roscommon
  Event type: Marriage
  Quarter and year: Jul-Sep 1910
  Volume: 3 / Page: 219

An matching entry appears for an  Anne Donoghue.

A cert would confirm additional details, such as her place of residence at the time of marriage, father's name and occupation etc

assuming that Patrick was born in the same area as shown on the census returns, then there are a number of possible matches on the BMD Index that could fit - see :

  Patrick Fallon births - 1872-1876 (https://www.familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3Apatrick~%20%2Bsurname%3Afallon~%20%2Bbirth_place%3ARoscommon%20%2Bbirth_year%3A1872-1876~&collection_id=1408347)

(skip down to the entries in Roscommon district)

Sometimes you can narrow down the possibilities with the extracted records on FamilySearch - a number of possibilities show up, some little earlier or later than the age suggested by the census :

Extracted Fallon births (https://www.familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bsurname%3Afallon~%20%2Bbirth_place%3ARoscommon~%20%2Bfather_givenname%3Ajohn~%20%2Bmother_givenname%3Amary~&collection_id=1584963)   (Roscommon, parents John & Mary)

Hi Shane,

I had seen that match with Anne Donoghue but can't see a likely person in 1901 as yet.

I have also just realised that I have been looking for Patrick and Michael with father Patrick  ::) instead of John.
