Thomas Cherry born c1720s (Grinton?) marries Elizabeth Alderson born c1728
Simon Cherry born c1757 marries Mary Wones born c1756 (Muker?)
Edward Cherry c1785 marries Elizabeth Bowes c1786
George Cherry born 1816 (Houghton, Durham) marries Margaret Nicholson c1820 (Reeth)
Any help would be extremely gratefull.
Thanks.

For anything to do with Swaledale it is well worth joining the Upper Dales family History Group. It does not cost anything. They are part of the Cleveland FHG and have tremendous local knowledge. Try googling them and join their email group. I have seen many mentions of the names you are researching on there.

This is an interesting post for me as I am researching the Cherry family in Heptonstall, West Riding. I know that Thomas Cherry b 1821 who married Susey Dewhirst was the son of another Thomas Cherry. Thomas 1821 had a brother called James and a sister. But I am wondering whether he also had another brother who could prove some sort of link between the Heptonstall Cherrys (who moved over the border to Cliviger, Lancs), the Swaledale ones and the Co Durham ones.
Look at this 1851 Melbecks Census entry:
CHERRY John/Head/32/Lead ore dresser/Yks/Heptonstall
CHERRY Ann/wife/30/Yks/Heptonstall
CHERRY Jane/dau/8/Yks/Reeth
CHERRY Tho'/son/6/Yks/Heptonstall
CHERRY Simon/son/4/Yks/Reeth
CHERRY Sarah Ann/dau/11m/Dur/Walsingham
Obviously John might have come here by chance (for work?) or he might have been returning to where he already had some family. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi, I think Mary Wones could be one of 'my' lot :) Haven't proved it yet though!
I was born a Wones. I would love to find out whether she is a sister (?) of my GGGG grandfather Edward, born around 1760.
Hope your research is going well, would love to hear if you have any info on any Woneses!

Look at FreeREG for the North Riding. The Grinton registers are searchable by name there. I have just had a very quick glance, sorry no time to do more, and there seemed to be lots of Cherrys.

I don't know if you are still looking for these people. but just in case ...
My link to the Cherrys is through Elizabeth, sister of Edward Cherry.
This is what I have in my tree:
Thomas Cherry (ch 4 Nov 1728 Grinton St Andrew bur 30 Dec 1789 Keld) married Elisabeth Alderson 26 Feb 1750 at Grinton.
Simon Cherry (ch 18 Sept 1757 Muker) married Mary Wones (bur 6 Nov 1812 Grinton) 31 March 1777 Muker
Edward Cherry (ch 25 September 1785 at Aysgarth St Andrew s/o Simon Cherry & Mary of Carperby).
I hadn't got the marriage of Edward, so that helps me :)

Hello, cousins - I'm another descendant of the Swaledale and Heptonstall Cherries.
Someone mentioned earlier that there was a father and son named Thomas living in Heptonstall. The father was born in Grinton in 1787, the son of John Cherry (b.1761) and Ginny Broderick (b.1765). He married Betty Nowell (1792-1866) and they had 9 children:
Simon (1816)
John (1818 - 1852)
James (1820)
Thomas (1822)
Jane (1824)
Broderick (1829)
Cornelius (1830-1833)
Jeremiah (1832-1872)
Sarah (1837-1892)
I know that Simon married Grace Uttley, and they lived in Halifax for a few years before eventually moving to Burnley with their children.
