Hello,
I'm looking for the passenger record of Miss I M Bennett who embarked from London and arrived at Brisbane on the ship Otranto.
The date of arrival was 16th October 1928.
I believe she was a governess and was travelling with the family.
Thank you,
Any help much appreciated.
Dijon :)

Thank you for your help Merlin but I seem to have the wrong Bennett.
The one I'm looking for is called Islet May Bennett born 1907.
I was informed she had travelled abroad as a governess in her twenties and early thirties.
Kind regards,
Dijon

I've just discovered from her passport that Ilet May Bennett travelled to France in 1930 as a Lady's Maid but the only Bennett I can find that fits is Alice Bennett born 1906.
This could be the right one as her first name is often wrong.
If anyone has access to this record I would be very keen to find out where she was living at the time and with whom.
Thank you,
Dijon.

Can't help you with shipping records or place of residence in FRANCE.
It's possible that her name is incorrect on the passenger list which happens at times.
You would be better posting your query on the forum for Immigrants, Emigrants, Expatriates, Exiles and people who worked 'abroad':

According to the UK BMD records she was born 1906 & died 1940 both in Appledore & her father Sidney was a sailor.
Ilet May BENNETT b. 27/09/1906 Bideford, Devon #5b/426
Violet M BENNETT age 33yrs d. 09/05/1940 Bideford, Devon #5b/1152

Outgoing passenger lists did not have to be reported if they were going to Europe. (Any records that appear to be for ships going to Europe are for ships that stopped there on their way to somewhere else, like the US). The same goes for incoming passenger lists.
Are there any addresses in the passport itself?
