Title: Findmypast.ie
Post by: sarenid on Monday 05 November 12 17:42 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find out what UK collections are included on the Find My Past Ireland site.  Are they the same as on the FindMyPast UK site or are they restricted to censuses and BMDs only.  I am coming up to a renewal of my UK subscription and if Findmypast.ie has the same collections as on the UK I will subscribe to that site and get Irish records as well.

I can’t tell you if there is any duplication of records as I don’t use the English version, but there are some records on the FindMyPast.ie version that are unique to Ireland eg prison and court records, and Encumbered Estates Records. It doesn’t have the Irish censuses but that is presumably because they are available free elsewhere. It does have some census substitute sources (which compensate for the destruction of the Irish censuses pre 1901). It doesn’t have the statutory BMDs but it does have some early marriage bonds and info like that. Also various census substitute sources, migration records, some military records, newspapers & directories. So you will see some different material on it.

Thanks for your reply.  I did sign up for FindMyPast Ireland when it first came out and found it very useful but having gleaned all I could at the time did not renew - most of my family is from the UK.  What I am trying to find out is whether the UK collection now being offered on FindMyPast ie are the same as those on FindMyPast uk which I presently subscribe to but am about to have to renew.  If they are the same then I will subscibe to the FindMyPast Ireland for more money but have access to the Irish records as well as the UK records.

Thanks again

I use both sites (.ie & .co.uk) as there is no overlap, or very little, as far as I can see

It's all changed a bit recently. You can get the Irish material through the World Collection on findmypast UK, and you can get the UK stuff on Ireland through either the UK and Ireland collection or the World collection. As far as I can see, most but not all of the UK data is there - certainly much more than just the census and BMDs - and they said they were working towards having it all there by the new year.

Many thanks for your reply Tewin.  Hopefully, having looked at the subscription details, it seems that for another £12 per 6 months i can get the rest of the world including Ireland on findmypast.uk.  I shall call them to confirm but if this is the case it is definitely the option to take, especially as recently they seem to have included a lot of the newspaper archive site as well.
