Title: Cork - William Ahern, Convict
Post by: MarieP on Monday 05 November 12 05:32 GMT (UK)
William Ahern arrived as a convict to Sydney in 1824.  Have been unable to locate any information from Ireland.  His native place was only stated as Cork.

It was hard to throw a stone in Cork in those days without hitting an Ahern. So you will need a lot more detail before someone can help you. Townland? Approx date of birth? Religion? What have you tried so far?

HI Trigger Happy!  Unfortunately I have got only limited information.  He arrived in Oz as a convict in Jan. 1824 after being convicted at  Summer Assizes in 1823 in  the City of Cork, he received a 7 year sentence. His age was given as 30 years. His native place was given as Capwell, Co.Cork.

His wife Judith/Julia McCarthy, born Bandon, arrived also as a convict in Jan. 1823.  She had 2 children with her. Their names were Catherine, born c1814 and Ellen c1816.  In Oz they had a further 4 children.

On a trip to Ireland I called in to the city of Cork looking for some info in his trial but found all references were missing.

Thanks for your interest
