Can someone out there do a marriage look up for me? I am after the date of birth for the Thomas getting married and the parents names, of both bride and groom . Especially the grooms fathers name.
Radford St Peter, Nottinghamshire marriage
24 Jul 1864 - Thomas HALLAM & Lucy NEWTON
Much thanks,
Jon.

do you have any other information? I have found a baptism for Thomas Hallam at the parish of Radford St Peter where he got married. Date of baptism is 15 Apr 1838 which would tie in with a marriage in 1864. His parents are Mary and William (FWK) - their abode is Radford. There is also a Lucy Rebecca Newton baptised at the parish of Radford St Peter on 1 Apr 1832 (maybe a little old) - her parents are Sophia and Isaac (tailor) - abode Radford. There is another Lucy baptised in 1844 - Nottingham St Mary, Charlotte and Emanuel (FWK) Abode Rumford Place
Hope this helps :-*

TThe burial locator disk says he was 82 years and 10 months at his death/burial in 1926 - I have looked online at the Waverley Cemetery Database but he is not listed ??? sorry
-
I have done what you suggested and ordered his death cert to check for childrens names. Lucy was buried at Fielding in 1924............... I wonder. Hope this is the right one. Thanks
Jon.

do you know what cemetery he is buried at? If you ring the cemetery they should be able to tell you who the undertaker is and they sometimes have details about the parents :-* might be too long ago but you never know
-
This might explain why his name didn't come up on their online cemetery database - good luck ;)
The following Cemeteries are not administered by South Taranaki District Council but have been added to this list for your information.

Hi Jon
This might be worth investigating
John Hallam married Catherine Daykin 28.12.1844 at Radford St Peters.
There is a Thomas Hallam aged 7 living with John & Catherine in 1851 census
If you haven't got access let me know.

That household in 1851, in Nottingham St Nicholas, looks like this:
Jas Hallam, 51, born in Colveston, Leicestershire
Ann Hallam, wife, 55, born in Wollaton
- children:
Jas 19
Hannah 15
Mary 13
John 29, married, born Basford
- and John's family:
Catherine, wife, 31, born Nottingham
Thomas, 7
Eliza 5
Hannah 2
Mary Ann 6 mo
I think this is the same household in 1841 in St Mary:
James Hallam, 40
Ann Hallam, 45
John, 15
Thos, 15
James, 10
Ann, 14
Eliza, 8
Hannah, 6
Mary, 2
Catherine, 20
It looks like John's age has been rounded down from 19, and Catherine's from 21, in 1841 -- Catherine being John's wife and shown at the end of the list, after James and Ann's own children.
In 1841, the surname has been corrected by an Ancestry user, to Hallam from Hullum. That person can be contacted through the Ancestry system, to inquire about their connection, if any.
This marriage would fit that household:
June quarter 1841, Nottingham
John Hallam
Catherine Sherwood
If that were right, it would make you a genuine Sherwood from Nottingham. ;)
In 1861, Catherine is in St Mary with children Eliza 15, Hannah 12 and Mary Ann 10, and also William, 4 months old, and is recorded as a widow. The 10 years between the two youngest children seems a little odd.

Hi Jon,
Sorry to have taken so long but been ill. Have today been to the archives so here the marriage
St Peters Radford 24 July 1864
Thomas Hallam aged 20yrs a Frame Smith of Thomas Street, father John Hallam a FWK
Lucy Newton 20yrs of Thomas St father Emanuel Newton a FWK
witnesses were Thomas Wigley adn Caroline Daykin.
Now you say his mother was Catherine and there is a marriage at same church on 24 Dec 1844 of John Hallam and Catherine Daykin and as there is a Daykin as witnesses on Thomas marriage I would say that this is his parents.
Cannot find any christenings for children of John and Catherine.

thanks nottsgirl1, and all others on this thread. sorry I have been so long. Major life changing catastrophe. The dust has almost settled now. You have been a tremendous help,
Yes .... nottsgirl1, this looks like the right marriage. Lucy's Dad's name is correct. A frame work Knitter is correct. We have the right Lucy, ( my 2nd great Grandmother )
When Lucy NEWTON was born on February 7, 1844, in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, her father, Emmanuel, was 38 and her mother, Charlotte, was 38. She married John Thomas HALLAM on July 24, 1864, in Nottinghamshire. By the time Lucy and her husband John emigrated to New Zealand in ..... they had already lost 2 children at home in Nottingham,England. They had 4 children with them on board the ship and Lucy was pregnant at the time. By the time they arrived in Brooklyn, New York, 3 had died and they only had Lucy, the baby with them. Someone on board was suffering from Scarlet Fever and it went through the ship like a dose of salts, even some of the crew died of it. My mother tells me Lucy and John had 21 children in 23 years. I find it hard to believe. She died on February 6, 1924, in Cheltenham, Manawatu-Wanganui, New Zealand, at the age of 79.
What I need is...... John Thomas Hallam's exact date of birth ( birth Cert ) more proof of his mothers maiden name.
Cheers,
Jon.
