Hi,
I have the Will of Thomas Slapp of Redgrave cum Botesdale and he is exactly the person I need. His Will names my ancestor, Thomas WAYTH, as his son and as his executor. So now I need to find out about Thomas Slapp.
Thomas Slapp was born abt 1743 (death year - age) I hope at Redgrave (it seems that SLAPPS were in Redgrave at the begining and end of the 1700s - hoping they were there in the middle too.
His Will names his wife as Ann Katherina - which I think is the 1766 marriage of Ann Katherina KENDALL & Thomas SLAPP at Broome.
I am hoping someone can look up the marriage and baptism for me
Thank you

Ray, thanks for the Marriage Licence info. its nice to have confirmation that that Thomas was from Botesdale.
The burial info fits fairly well with his obituary printed in the Bury and Norwich Post - Wednesday 07 August 1805, which reads as follows
"On Monday last died, in his 63rd year, after a long and severe affliction, supported with truly Christian fortitude and resignation, Mr Thomas Slapp, attorney at law at Botesdale. A gentleman of the strictest integrity in his profession, universally known, and as universally respected. His social disposition, and the natural warmth of his feelings, rendered him a most agreeable companion, and a most faithful friend. In the nearer relations of life, the excellence of his principles, and the many good qualities of his heart, renders this event most sincerely and deservedly lamented, and will stamp his memory with the most sacred and lasting regret."
His baptism should be 1742 to 1744 and I hope in Redgrave or Botesdale (his residence is variously given as "Redgrave", "Redgrave cum Botesdale", or "Botesdale".

The Suffolk Burial Index shows 3 Thomas SLAPP's buried at St Marys with Botesdale, Redgrave - 2 were from the parish of Botesdale. Only a chapel in Botesdale so all burials etc took place at either Redgrave or sometimes one of the Rickinghall's.
Thomas SLAPP of Botesdale 9 Nov 1728
Thomas SLAPP of Botesdale 11 Mar 1751
Thomas SLAPP son of Thomas & Catherine 16 Apr 1774
The SBI, CD available from Suffolk FHS, lists plenty of SLAP(P) burials at St Mary, Redgrave cum Botesdale from 1674 on. There are also some at St Mary, Rickinghall Inferior.

Hi,
Thanks, I have the burial references and Thomas Slapp's obituary and Will, and his son Thomas Peyton Slapp's obituary and Will..
It is particularly the baptisms I need (the marriage is now confirmed). I am asking the Suffolk Records Office if I can get a copy of the parish registers for Redgrave and the two Rittinghalls. I know I can get 1558 to 1900, but I only need the period before 1800.
Regards

There are nine SLAPP burials at Rickinghall Inferior
http://stmarysrickinghallinferior.onesuffolk.net/parish-registers/surnames-list-2/
Thomas Peyton SLAPP was rector of Rickinghall

There is a Genealogist resident in Rickinghall who should be able to help with searching the registers. I believe the early ones are indeed held at Suffolk Records Office
