The reverse of this photo card indicates it was taken/produced by the Ivy Photo Co., 21 Argyle Street, Glasgow.
I hope someone out there might be able to provide a range of dates or a guess about her age at the time the photo was taken.
Thanks,
Donn Cairns

The fashion for masculine shirt & tie became popular in the 1890's however this is later.
The hat is an Edwardian style but she's wearing a shirt with a collar bar or pin which is a post war type.
So I would suggest during the later part of WW1.

Treetotal: Sorry. All I have is the front scan and a notation that it was a Post Card along with the photographer information.
jim1: Thanks. I am trying to confirm this is a photo of a specific person. If it does date from later part of WWI, this would not be who we think it is. Interesting observations on the clothing.

I'm basing the date purely on the shirt style which I haven't seen pre WW1.
If you take that out of the equation it could be a decade earlier.

OK I don't like to leave things up in the air so I've had a mooch about amongst what I have & found another dated 1910-12.
On this lady she has the collar bar on the outside of her tie which made it difficult to spot..sound like a good excuse ?
so on that basis around 1910 - WW1.

The Ivy Photo Company were operating from Argyle Street from at least 1912 through to 1920, according to the Post Office Directory. They were not listed at that address in 1904.

I think she's about 18, if that helps at all

Wow. You all are wonderfully skilled. I believe we can now, unequivocally, say this is a photo of who we believed it to be.
jim1: The reason I was a bit disappointed with the late WWI period is that the young woman we believed this to be emigrated to the US in early 1911. Her father and an older brother had emigrated the year before so, perhaps, this photo could have been intended either for her absent family members or, possibly for a beau she knew she might never see again.
LittleNell: Where did you find the directory information? It does look like the company was on Argyle Street in 1910/early 1911. Certainly close enough to the period you found and I would like to use your source to research other establishments that are/may be related to my ancestors (John Cairns, Bootmaker in Johnstone and Cairns Marmalade in Paisley) to see what became of those businesses.
IgorStrav: Spot on. This girl was born Jan 27, 1891.
Thanks to all of you.
