Around the same time, Carol, I think....early 1900s. Especially as the back is plain, and the texturing on the front.

Cheers,
China

Yes.
I imagine it was taken at the same time as the other one - backdrop is identical just the rustic stile added as she is posing in  her outdoor uniform.

I'm wondering if the photo was applied over another photo as the photo border is way off from the border frame?,  or was that just the workmanship in those days ?.., tommy

I love this photo and the fact that it's local to me. I recently bought a nurses chatelaine from the car boot sale at Walton Street in Hull.  The man selling it thought it was for fishermen!

Do you know where she worked? I was delighted when I was having my son in April at the Hull Women's and Childrens hospital to see a big permanent display of photos relating to the old hospital in the lobby (took my mind off the agony for a few mins! :D  )

I'd say 1906-1910 at the latest, I have a similar uniform in my collection and it's from 1906.

Taken on the same day - her hairstyle  is identical on both photos.

Hi Katie...No I'm afraid I don't know where she worked...I love them both and they are from an album found in an attic in Newland Avenue and it was given to me...I am working through the album and putting them in date order in an attempt to find some clues as to which Family they belong to but have little to go on at the moment :-\
Instinct tells me that these were taken some time apart....the first being when she qualified and the second a short time later...although they were clearly taken in the same studio...her face looks fuller in the second photo as shown by Mike's helpful juxtopositon of the head shots...Thanks Mike.
Thanks for your interest.

Her face does look fuller but I wondered whether that was a combination of a different expression on her face and catching the light differently. It's just that her hair looks so exactly the same on both photos - same little highlights, same locks, everything.  If it was taken on a different day, she must be a very organised person.

Hi Carol,

I'll have a look next time I'm at the hospital, but I think the uniform is the same as those worn at the old infirmary (where the prospect centre is I think?) Apart from the big London hospitals most nurses wore a similar uniform.
Sadly, 65 Beverley Road where the photographer was, is now Auto Save. :-\

Hi Carol I had a look at the 1901 census and Robert Fugill is shown as a 32 year old Photographer in Yorkshire. He was not listed in 1891 nor 1911. This might narrow the dates.
