Hi I am just reading through messages as this is my first time on this site.
4 of my grandmothers brothers were killed in the great was and another one was wounded. John dunne was the wounded one and Michael & James were two of the brothers the other two I don't know their names but the were twins and killed the same week. I never knew grandmother and my mother who just gave me sketchy details ( I was not that interested at the time and now too late as there is no one to ask )

Hi Cathy,
It might be possible to find more information on them, do you know what county or area they were from and their parents names.
-
Hi Cathy,
I will try to find the details of your great uncles, however, it will be necessary to say from which county and district did they come. The census will also help, but we need more information.
Regards,
Ken.

yes I have their parents names Michael John Dunne and Catherine Dunne nee Breslin I know that in 1895 they lived in 33 Stoney Batter Dublin. I got that address from their son John's birth cert, he was the one who came back wounded. He is the only one I knew anything about, apart from the two sisters, one of whitch was my grandmother, who I never met either.
Thank you for any help you maybe able to give me

Based on the names given and the fact that two brothers died the same day, I went throught the CWGC site and found
J DUNNE (http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/613318/DUNNE,%20J) and Michael DUNNE (http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/755432/DUNNE,%20MICHAEL)
Michael is shown as having served under the name DOWLING and his next of kin are given as Michael and Catherine Dunne, of 105, Grangegorman, Dublin; this would seem to be a good start for you
You may want to consider starting a separate topic on this if you want to gather more information
andyKK and Irishmedals will probably know more about the regiments and their typical war service than me

Well done myluck, I was about to look at the CWGC website when I received your communication. Cathy, they were both attached to the Royal Dublin Fusiliers - Michael was in the 2nd Battalion and was killed on 01/07/1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme. His grave is unknown, but is commemorated on Pier and Face 16C, Thiepval Memorial in France.
There's a J. Dunne of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, 1st Battalion, also killed on 01/07/1916 and was buried at Grave A. 92. Hawthorn Ridge Cemetery, No. 2, Auchonvillers, France. In his case the CWGC records do not give his home address, but there's a good chance that they are your uncles.
Now, I cannot find Michael and Catherine Dunne of Stonybatter or Grangegorman, on the census for 1901 or 1911, but it doesn't mean they are not there. Will you look up the national census on http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ and see if you can locate the family? This would give you a clue about the names of your other uncles. In the meantime, I will try to find their Service Records over the next few weeks and contact you again.

Thank you both so much although it may not seem much information to you it is a great deal to me. I did find catherine dunne on census but husband not their, Michael, James, john, and the two girls Bridget and Margaret were their too. no twins and not father, at the timme of census, 1901 I did not find any of them in 1911, but I am going over on trip soon as I heard 1926 census available on microfilm in archives.
regards Cathy

1926 Census is not available to access yet. At the moment it's still closed under the 100 years rule, although there are moves to try to allow it's early release.

Cathy,
As Shane wrote; the 1926 census is not yet available. Can you tell me in what street in Dublin was your grandmother and uncles recorded in the 1901 census?

this is the closest match in 1901 I can see at the moment - right sort of age for John, and most of the names that Cathy listed are present - except Margaret ?
Dunn household - Hendrick_Street (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Arran_Quay/Hendrick_Street/1338640/)
Hendrick St. is off Queen's St. - so not all that far from Stoneybatter and Grangegorman...

There is a civil reference for the marriage of
Catherine BRESLIN & Michael DUNNE (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FY4W-ZMN)
in Dublin North in 1886; Apr-Jun Volume 2 Page 504
This is all the detail you need if you want to order their marriage certificate from the General Register Office
The Cert would show there addresses at the time of the marriage and their father's names and occupations
Dunnes (http://www.dublinheritage.ie/electoral/search.php) living at 105b Grangegorman Lwr in 1939
