Death notice for James Sutherland in Press 15 May 1871 says he died at the residence of his brother in law, Sultan Farm Lincoln. Have googled and googled and nothing coming up for Sultan Farm. I would like to know whether the farm still exists, and would it have been owned or leased by my great great grandfather Charles Fraser back in 1871 and where I would find that information. James Sutherland was brother of Elizabeth Sutherland who was wife of Charles Fraser...Going by where children of Charles and Elizabeth were born It appears Charles and Elizabeth were at Sultan Farm from Possibly 1867-1875 Marriage in 1867 has Charles occupation as farmer. Their last child was born 1876 Windmill Road Sydenham
Any info on Sultan Farm would be most appreciated
Many thanks

"Papers Past"-
Mention of Sultan's Farm in newspaper dated 15.5.1871.
OOOPs, sorry about that. I did not read the post properly!
You could try Archives Christchurch, as a copy of the Deed in respect of the land is possibly held by the department. If owned at the time by your ancestor, his name would appear on the document. The Deeds are searchable on line but a little help may be needed by staff to negotiate the site.
Minniehaha.
