Hi can anyone help me find my fathers side ,don't laugh it is Jones,i am looking for George Jones of Sheffield 1765-1851 and it says he was a Chelsea pensioner, can anyone tell where to look for more info on him.

Any indicator of when he served?
Where & when (for example) were his kid(s) born?
Where & when were his kid(s) wed and what was George's occupation at the time?

If he died in 1851 he should appear on the 1841 and perhaps 1851 censuses. Do you know if George was actually born in Sheffield?
Do you know George's wife's name and anything more about her such as date and place of birth?
Unsure where to find records of Chelsea pensioners if they exist, but I'm sure someone else will know.
(sorry crossed posts with Pauline)

I rather favour this baptism for Eliza Jones (daughter)

thanks all,now does anyone know who his first wife was, because he had a son called George in 1786.

Where was George junior born?

I think he died in 1852 rather than 1851...
There are two possible Sheffield deaths:
GRO Deaths SEP Qtr 1851
JONES George
Sheffield 22 393
GRO Deaths SEP Qtr 1852
JONES George
Ecclesall Bierlow 9c 112
I believe I have found burials for both these individuals:
Gleadless Christ Church
JONES George 14 Aug 1851 Gleadless 68
(name/date of burial/address/age)
Too young.
The second fits the bill:
St Peter’s (Sheffield Parish Church, now the Anglican Cathedral)
JONES George 9 Sep 1852 Sheffield, Summerfield House 88
There is a death notice:
Sheffield and Rotherham Independent
Saturday 11 Sep 1852
Deaths
...
JONES.-- At Wentworth terrace, Upperthorpe, on the 4th inst.
Mr. George Jones in his 89th year.
The fact that he is described as "Mr." suggests he was of some standing.

I was getting excited because I thought that Summerfield House had survived - there is a house built in a traditional style on the same site, 111 Upperthorpe Road, but I think it has been re-built. It is next to two or three houses which are definitely old.
The house can be seen on OS maps at http://www.old-maps.co.uk with coordinates 434359 388177. The 1890 town plan shows it best. The 1853 map is at a smaller scale but the house name can just be made out.

Thanks again,i had come to a stand still with this side, now i am finding more info. The burial records for the younger George seems to match jr because he was born at Gleadless and the rest of the Jones lived around that area most of there lives.George jnr dates were 1786-1851 and married Ann,they had 5 children Henry,David,William,Ellen and Ann.
I will have to ask my Dad if he remembers anything about Upperthorpe area, may be my mum would remember because her own father was born in that area.
Thank again if you have anymore info it will be gratefully received
