Glyn Idris Davis, born Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales 1883, married my 3rd Cousin 2nd removed Dora Barbara Routledge, 23 April 1913, Bedwelty, Monmouth, England (yes England). By 17 September 1917 Glyn was a 2nd Lt. in the Royal Garrison Artillery, (London Gazette). On page 2218, 24 June 1918, "Supplement to the EDINBURGH Gazette" he wins a medal. Why the Edinburgh Gazette and not the London Gazette? And one problem I have with the Edinburgh Gazette is that I cannot go back to pages 2217 or even further back to find out what his medal was at the beginning of that series of awards.

Why the Edinburgh Gazette and not the London Gazette?
I think both the Edinburgh and the London Gazette printed the whole list - appearance in the Edinburgh Gazette didn't necessarily imply that the individual had any connection with Scotland.
He is in the London Gazette too http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/30761/supplements/7408 but indexed as Grlyn not Glyn.

Thanks for your help. As you mentioned he is in the London Gazette also. But same problem as the Edinburgh Gazette. I cannot get back (this time) from page 7408 to 7407 or earlier to find out what medal they were giving to that series of men.

Awarded the Military Cross Pg 7402

Thank you. I knew it had to be something important and sure enough it was. I can now put in his notes on my computer that he won the Military Cross. And now I understand the Edinburgh and London Gazette similarities.

That's odd, because on my screen there is a little box at the top saying 'go to page ....' and I just click on the number of the page I want and it goes back. Above it is a row of blue buttons, for 'first', 'previous', 'next' and 'last' that I can use to work forward or back.
Alternatively, if that box and buttons aren't there, just alter the page number in the URL and click on it and it will go to whichever page you specify.
