Could you help me find out which Sarah Jennings married Andrea Roche (also known by the name Andrew Gregory Rocke) in Adelaide on 6.4.1867
I believe the marriage record shows her father as Samuel Jennings which would match a Sarah Jennings age 7 who migrated with her family to Adelaide from Clapham London on the ship "Sea Queen" arriving at Port Adelaide 25.3.1850. Father shown as Samuel Jennings.
However Sarah Rocke (nee Jennings) died 16.6.1920 in Perth W.A. where her obituary in "The Daily News" newspaper states she was born in St Ives Cornwall and migrated to Adelaide age 19 on the ship "Peeress"arriving in Port Adelaide 9.7.1865
The obituary also states she died at the age of 86 which would be wrong for both the Sarahs. Surely there can't be a third Sarah Jennings who arrived in Adelaide at that time! It would be very interesting to know what the incorrect Sarah Jennings' marriage or death records show - could help identify the correct one.
Hope you can shed some light on this,

The 1920 obit says that Sarah arrived "54 years ago" and her time in each State does add up. This is the only one that I can see, is there another which gives her age and date of arrival?

This would mean she arrived around 1866 aged 32. (Having terrible trouble with my maths today)

OK, she wasn't 86, she was 73.

Hi
The age of Sarah JENNINGS was recorded as 21 at the time of her marriage in 1867 which corresponds with the 19 y.o. Sarah who arrived on the ship Peeress in 1865.
One Sarah JENNINGS born in Cornwall recorded in DEC Q 1845 at Penzance.

in 1851 the Sarah form St Ives - Sarah JENNINGS - was with her mother, Mary, 41, Manglewoman, widow, and siblings Mary 11 and Samuel 7 and at Back Road, St Ives.
1861 Mary 52 dressmaker, Mary 21 dressmaker and Sarah 15 tailoress are at Gas Court, St Ives.
Hmmm There is an on-line public tree with a Sarah Elizabeth JENNINGS b abt 1845 in Cornwall married to Andrew ROCKE (surname changed by deed poll form ROCCHI) This tree gives Sarah's parents as Samuel Jennings (1812 – 1897) and Sarah Jane Tucker (1814 – 1879). This tree has a photo of Andrea and Sarah and some of their children. The tree names a brother for Sarah as William JENNINGS. His marriage certificate clearly shows his parents as Samuel and Sarah (nee Tucker) JENNINGS.
So - is this William your Sarah's brother?

Judith I think that is the family mentioned in the original post who arrived on the Sea Queen in 1850. They were from Surrey.
She is not the Sarah who married Andrew ROCKE.
Here is that Sarah's death in Victoria in 1884...
Name: Sarah Elizabeth GUNNER
Died: Prahran, Victoria
Age: 42
Father: Saml JENNINGS
Mother: Sarah TUCKER
Registered: 1884
# 5741

Debra, I'm sure you're right . The tree online has the right marriage for a Sarah Jennings to Andrea Rocke but they have the parents wrong. Thought it was worth putting up though, especially for the photo of Sarah and Andrea and their children.

Hi
From the records I have seen Sarah Rocke (nee Jennings) and Andrew Rocke called their first daughter Mary Ellen second daughter Sarah and their third child (a boy) Samuel Matthew possibly after the parents Mary and Samuel and Sarah herself which tends to suggest the Sarah Jennings from St Ives is the correct one as the name Mary does not appear in the "Sea Queen" Jennings family from Clapham, Surrey. This is only supposition and not factual proof though.
It was Sarah Elizabeth Jennings who migrated on The "Sea Queen" and I have not seen Sarah Rocke referred to as Sarah Elizabeth Rocke except in this online public tree.
I'm puzzled by this change of name in by deedpoll from 'Rocci'. From my memory I think this was supposed to have happened in 1952. Andrew Rocke died in 1903 and previous to Rocke the surname used was Roche.

Sarah Rocke called her first child Mary and her first son Samuel, after her parents maybe?
