:) I am trying to find out information about a woman called Elsie May
She was born 19/12/1887 at 9 Walpole Street, Bristol in the registration district of Barton Regis sub district Saint Philip and Jacob. Does anyone know if that that street still exists in Bristol, I am not from there, but see no street by that name on the map of Bristol I have in front of me. Now, Elsie May possibly married an elderly gentlemen called Robert Hunter Bruce, a wealthy tea-planter and landed proprietor in the north of Scotland, who once lived in Amoy, China. They had three children, in London, I believe, but later separated. Robert Hunter Bruce may have had a property in Clifton, Bristol. I think Elsie May may have came from a very much humbler background. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated.

If you go to Bristol City Council's web site "Know Your Place", and select the 1949 map, then search for Warwick Road, Easton, Walpole Street runs north from Warwick Street from the "Warwick" text on the map!

Thanks very much indeed, K! That's amazing! I am going to be in Bristol (well, Shirehampton), at Christmas (our son Magnus works there), so I will check out the street. Kind regards, Gordon

I don't think either Walpole Street exists any more?
Stapleton Road certainly does, but lots of rebuilding around there.
Warwick Road is still there, too!
Runs from Lower Ashley Road into Stapleton Road, in an easterly direction.
