Hi,
I am trying to find out details about a John Grierson, who is listed on the 1861 census for Strathaven, Lanarkshire as being born in Balmaclellan. He was 66 in 1861 so would have been born in about 1795. I wondered if anyone has any details.

In 1861 - he is 66 and wife Janet is 35 - likely marriage here https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XTTZ-69M
In 1851 he is 58 and Janet is 25
In 1841 there is a 75yr old Agnes Grierson living with him who could possibly be his mother
As he died after 1855 - have you checked his death on Scotlands People as it will give his parents names and mothers maiden name

There was a census done in Balmaclellan in 1792. There were Griersons in Knocklearn, Crogo, Barmark and Parkrobin at the time I think the one you may want would be the Barmark where William Grierson aged 70 Isabel Kevan 63,Isabel Grierson 38, William Grierson 30,James Grierson 28, Agnes Paulin 60, Elizabeth McCaa 22, Agnes Gillespie 20. These were the inhabitants at the time. Perhaps your ancestors were amongst these?
MI's for Balmaclellan include Gillespie and Grierson names.
