Post by: jennyrob on Thursday 18 October 12 14:25 BST (UK)
I am trying to find Elizabeth Christopher  abt1865 abergavenny. i can see her as a servant  on 1881 census at the vicarage  Newport road Cardiff she marries Thomas Biggs in 1882 in Cardiff
I  cant find her in 1871
Her father is Thomas Christopher as he can be seen in 1901 in 9 Helen St Cardiff
Must be right dad as her daughter Mabel Biggs is there.
On family search there is an Elizabeth Christoper christened Abergavenny 1864 with father Thomas and mother Caroline
I can see a Thomas and Caroline in Canton Cardiff in 1871 with a daughter Louisa A Christopher born Abergavenny 1864 Could this be her with a different name

it could be that the Louisa on the 1871 census is an enumerator's error. The scanned census that we see online is a copy of the enumerator's book, so there's the possibility that the enumerator made an error when writing up the names.

Do you have a copy of Elizabeth's birth cert? This could be the registration

Elizabeth Ann Christopher dec qtr 1864 Abergavenny vol 11a pg 43

Caroline's death was registered in 1874

Caroline Christopher 40 june qtr 1874 Cardiff vol 11a pg 201

and Thomas remarried the following year

Thomas Christopher sept qtr 1875 Cardiff vol 11a pg 394 with Joan Stephens on the same page.

There's a Biggs grandchild with the couple in 1891 as well as 1901.

I have a feeling they married in Hereford as Thomas Christopher was said to be from Worcester born 1831 and Caroline 1825 Llantillo Pertholey on 1861 census or in 1871 Thomas Hereford and Caroline Pantegelly There is a marriage in Hereford in 1852 Thomas Christopher and Caroline Davis It was Louisa foxing me !!

the birth cert would confirm Caroline's maiden name. The Pontypool one looks far more likely. The 1852 Hereford marriage looks to be to Hannah Tanner - 1861 census RG9/4226 folio 5 pg 7, and Caroline Davis married William Walters  - 1871 census RG10/2706 folio 56 pg 2.

I must get birth cert but there were two born in Abergavenny one in 1864 one in 1865  I cant work out why it says her father Thomas was born 1831Hereford  in 1881 census In 1901 it says hes from Radnor and in 1871 it says Mordiford
I got a lot to learn
Love to know where full marriage details are found too

I cant work out why it says her father Thomas was born 1831Hereford  in 1881 census In 1901 it says hes from Radnor and in 1871 it says Mordiford

Mordiford is very near Hereford - there's a Thomas who fits in the area in 1841 (ref  HO107/ 421/ 15/ 7 ) with Richard and Margarett, both 70 and Elizabeth, 25

Findmypast has a number of parish records for counties in Wales which include a scan of the register.

Can't see an Elizabeth registered in 1865, there is one in 1863, though. The 1864 registration gives Ann as her middle name as in the marriage registration, but dec qtr 1864 does seem a little late for someone given as 7 on the 1871 census and 18 at marriage in 1882. You could order from the local registrar rather than the GRO, specifying the names of the parents

As a matter of interes KGarrard are you researching the Morgans of Dingestow as I have a Christopher in my Morgan records also? As far as I know there are still Morgans living in the Dingestow area, I'm hoping to visit the area this summer.

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

No - I have no Morgans or Christophers in my family tree!
I just enjoy researching for others. ;D

Original Poster wanted Elizabeth Christopher in a census, and I found her living with the Morgans.
So I transcribed the census entry in post #2.
