depending on the period, you're better off looking at electoral rolls

Hi Enid :)
Enid Australia does not have surviving census as you have in the UK. There are online electoral rolls on ancestry from Federation to 1980 and the 1856 Vic roll.
There is no way of knowing if this is your Elizabeth and Wm.
Australian Electoral Roll
1903
HOGAN Elizabeth 41 Wilson Street, Brunswick HD
HOGAN William 41 Wilson Street, Brunswick Labourer
Will see if I can locate Wm at Bairnsdale. Unfortunately not everyone re-enrolled when they moved house.

Now I am confused..you have mentioned the divorce for Wm and Elizabeth but this link has Wm and Leiala in Gippsland ...I haven't got the time to go back over all the threads about the HOGANS etc in Aus.

Probably better just to make a requet for the names of those you would like us to locate on electoral rolls.

Enid I will mention also that NSW online electoral rolls commence in 1930 however I have the 1903 and 1913 although I find the 1913 difficult to search....probably me.

:) Hi Many thanks for all the info, could I look up the electrols on line? I need to find where William and Lelia where living at time of his death in 1909 he was working on the railway construction living camp at bruthen. This man lied so much, The William and Elizabeth that divorced are no my William.

Hi Enid
I gave the electoral roll information on one of the numerous threads on the HOGAN's and the 1909 is the only time Wm and Leialia appear on the rolls. The rolls were not updated each year. It was not compulsory to vote and often when people moved frequently they did not re-enrol.
His death certificate should detail his usual residence [UR] in Column 2 - When and Where died.
Cheers
