Thank you.  I have some pieces of information but I cannot be 100% sure.  I believe the date of birth is Sept 28, 1873.  The place of birth listed in her 1945 obituary says she was "born in Sartirana, province de Pavia, Italy.  ( Is there such a place or is that just a region?)

And, for her name.  I have seen listed Jeanne Tosi on a USA immigration document.  Lagneau was her married name.  Her obituary lists her name as Joan Mary.  Unfortunately I do not have a birth name.

Perhaps....Giovannia (is that italian for Jeanne or Joan?

I just can;t seem to find anything which is 100% correct.  Any help you can give me I would appreiate.  I have requested some microfilm from Familysearch.com, which has arrived.  I believe it might have been birth records from that time frame and from maybe that region.  I just have not been able to set up a time yet to sit and peruse through it.  I am sure it will be timely.

I do know that Jeanne did come with her husband in Nov 1920 from Choisy de Rol, France to the USA.  I have Ellis Island records.  It does list her as Italian.

Hi camden120,
Pavia in northern Italy is the province where the town is Sartirana.
Taking it her maiden name is Tosi.   As for names  Giovanna or Giovanna Maria would be correct italian.  Date of birth, year will be ok.
So we have italian/french/american rcords.  Going to check all three as she marfied I presume in France and then went to the USA.
Keep looking in on here, it will take me a few days as I have several ongoing projects, mine and others..
Not a problem for me, but cannot make any promises, see what I can find.

I appreciate your interest.
As a side note....I believe Jeanne (my great grandmother) was born in Italy.  At some point, and I do not know the timeframe, she emigrated to Buenos Aires.  I just recently found out some incredible information recently.  My grandmother, was not her biological daughter.
Armand Lagneau (Laino in the 1895 Argentine Census) was in Buenos Aires with his wife, son.  And that is where my grandmother was born.
According to a US passport application for my grandmother in 1920, she listed she returned to France in 1916.  In a 1920 French marriage certificate my grandmother lists her biological mother as "absent"....which may be interpreted as "divorce"?  Possibly then her father, Armand came back with Jeanne Tosi as his wife?  Maybe he met her in France after 1916?  In 1929, Jeanne Tosi Lagneau makes a trip back to Buenos Aires from the USA with her step daughters grandson.  Must be to visit relatives?

Chasing ghosts!!

Hi Camden124,
Starting a new thread on this so as not to confuse the "Italian Census".
Right have sent an e-mail, here in Italy, to see if I can get hold of the birth details of (Giovanna) TOSI 1873.
Start from there and see what happened to her and who her parents were.
Give a little time for reply.

Alan,

Thank you for your kind input.  Looked at tree and found Giovanna "Jeanne" Tosi who married Roberte Pessognelli and she died in France.  Could be more than a coincidence.   There are no dates - seems they must have problems.  She may be the female we are looking for given the name "Jeanne   " , which she did use at one time.  Keeping hold of that site to see if anything matches what I find.
Grateful thanks for your interest - every bit helps.

Camdem124:  Could be something in that - we will get there in the end.

I have just received in the mail a "servizio dello stato civile sartirana lomellina"....for Maria Giovanna Tosi.   Someone had given me an email address to the Comune Di Sartirana Lomellina.

I had emailed that her name was Joan Mary on her obituary and her name was listed as Jeanne on other US documents.  Also, her name was listed as Jeanne Tosi on a 1929 manifest through Ellis Island when she returned from Buenos Aires.
The only date of birth I had ever seen listed was 9/28/1873.

So this certificate seems to be for a Mary Giovanna Tosi.  Born 12/28/1873.

All this is VERY close to the information that I asked for.  My mother could have been off on the date of birth.  September could be December.  1873 is the same.  Names are transposed, but......this person was born in the city listed on her obituary.

Think this could be the my Great Grandmother?   It also lists  her father as Angelo Tosi and her mother as Maria Pasquarelli, which I have never known of.

Considering this is the woman i am looking for....Maria Giovanna Tosi.  Born 12/28/1873 in Sartirana, Italy.
Are there records that will show when someone left Italy and emmigrated to another country?  I think she left and went to Buenos Aires.

Her parents are Angelo Tosi and Maria Pasquarelli.  Is it possible there are other siblings?

As regards parents and no date of birth. Will e-mail the National Archives in Pavia with the details of Maria and see if a Census exists.
Will have a look at emigration records Italy to Argentina.

Just sent an e-mail to the National Archives in Pavia to see what info they have.
In the meantime found this - don't know if it relates.
On Familysearch (the mormons):-
Argentine National Census 1895 Santa Fe, San Jeronimo.
Name:       Juan Tosi  b. 1865  Italy
Residence: Dept. San Jeronimo, Santa Fe, Argentina
Age :         22
Birth:        1873
Nation:      Italy
Marital Stat: Soltero
Film N°:     747070
Digital Folder N°: 004160735
Looked at the actual image and the only info given is as follows:-
Alberto Tosi                b. 1865  Italy
Carlos Tosi                  b. 1868  Italy
???????  Tosi               b. 1873 Italy (can't make out name - does not look like Juan)
Andrea Tosi                 b.1875  Italy
Maria Tosi                   b. 1878 Italy

You can look at the actual image if you can get to a library with the film and digi numbers or online to familysearch  and input Maria Giovanna Tosi b.1873  Sartirana.  Parents Angelo Tosi & Maria Pasquarelli.
Maybe related to your Tosi.

I have some films that I requested through FamilySearch.  Just have not had time yet to sift through them.  I can;t even remember what I requested!!!  They were from Sartirana I believe.  Time frame that matches the date of birth.  When I ordered them it was with the intention of trying to find my greatgrandmothers birth certificate.  The center here is only open on Wed and Saturdays.

I briefly did the familysearch to try and find their names, but nothing came up as an exact hit.  I have posted things on Italiangeneology.com before and had great success with their pros finding info.  I might try this information and see what they can come up with.
