Hello Neil...........I don't think this is a problem..but if you have the marriage in 1907..do you have Edith's parents??????
There appear to be two possibilities for the Hough family...depending on the Parents of Edith Hough.....at the moment I am looking at the parents being John and Harriet..in which case we go back into Notts rather than derbys...........but do not want to follow that line too closely till you confirm the parents.
The other possibility..though I'm sure there are others, is the Ashbourne area.......
Incidentally the marriage in 1907 produced two earlier children: Edith Ellen 1907/8 and William Thomas 1911..
I can proceed further if you get back to me.
Derek.

Another census gives Edith's birth c1888!
-
I have now seen the marriage entry for the marriage at St. Werbergh's 28.01.1907..on which the groom's father is GEORGE..and the Bride's father is JOHN..so i will proceed on the basis of that. Incidentally the 1901 shows JOHN HOUGH fron Snelston Notts............Snelston is actually in the Ashbourne District of Derbyshire.it is Selston that is in Notts............John's wife Harriet came from Yeaveley also in the Ashbourne area..and if I'm on the right track EDITH HOUGH daughter of John and Harriet was born 05.09.1887..and baptised at St.Paul Derby 02.10.1887........if this is correct i have the resources to go back to the Ark!!
Derek.

John's wife Harriet came from Yeaveley also in the Ashbourne area
Transcribed as Yeovil on Ancestry!! ::)

Thank you Derbysderek. Yes William Thomas and Edith ellen are siblings sorry i missed them both so i think you have found there parents..
Thank you KGarrad.I think that may be the family.

Hi Neil
Looking at all the other censuses, it is John Hough who gives his birth place as Yeaveley, Derbyshire & Harriett gives her birth place as Selston / Snelston. I think it must have been written the wrong way round on the 1901 census.
Do you have access to the census records?

The marriage of JOHN HOUGH and HARRIETT HARRISON took place at St paul DERBY 13.12.1885..and in case the marriage and baptisms at derby disturbs you..then Derby is only a stone's throw ( a big stone)//from Ashbourne..and Snelston, Yeaveley and Shirley are all on the way............incidentally..Yeaveley used to be in the parish of Shirley..and there are a couple of earlier Hough's in the Shirley registers.........may or may not be lnked.

we may have a slight problem....look at 1881..on which John is married to Georgana..Georgiana?....and since he didn't marry Harriet till 1885..looks like he married twice.............
Derek.
-
1871 census
Booth Hay, Yeaveley
He is aged 16 working as a servant (cowman) for Joseph Potter, farmer.
Carol
-
We may be looking at two different men........there is also a john hough died 1884.......
-
When I was looking through the censuses there was also another John Hough around living at Kirk Langley. The death reg on FreeBMD for John Hough is Belper which covers Kirk Langley, so It could be him
I would suggest Neil that you start buying a few certificates to confirm that we have the right one.
Carol
-
Yes it was the one from Kirk Langley
John Hough aged 28 buried 9 Feb 1884 at Kirk Langley
Carol
-
Yes carol..I agree...because one has parents William and Elizabeth..the other has parents John and Elizabeth...and of course Kirk Langley is another place in the close enclave...........
Derek
-
Ok........this might be a complete waste of time, because it is simply eliminating the wrong JOHN HOUGH........but it does appear to eliminate the Kirk Langley one............BUT this one WAS buried at Kirk Langley 09.02.1884.and did NOT marry HARRIET HARRISON.................
So William(son of Thomas) and Elizabeth Hough (nee RUSHTON) married at Kirk Langley 08.11.1837..and had TEN children, all baptised at Kirk Langley between 1838 and 1858..among which was JOHN HOUGH baptised 27.01.1856...........it is an inconceivable co-incidence if this is NOT the John Hough buried 09.02.1884 aged 28.so I SUGGEST that the John Hough born 1856 who married Harriet Harrison (probably his second marriage) 13.12.1885 in Derby..was in fact son of JOHN and ELIZABETH...........probably of Yeaveley.....now all I have to do is prove it.........
Derek.

Hi
I am also related to this family. John Hough (born c.1823) at Biggin and his wife Elizabeth (nee Gadsby) born c. Dec 1822 at Yeaveley are my 3x great grandparents. Their daughter Eliza and her second husband Charles Stone are my 2x great grandparents.
I am having difficulty going any further back but suspect that John's parents might be John Hough of Hulland Ward and Ann Kirkland who married in 1820 at Wirksworth. (Biggin was part of Wirksworth parish, but there is no corresponding baptism for John).
Elizabeth Gadsby's parents were Thomas and Sarah (nee Smith) who married on 19 Aug 1822 at Shirley. Sarah's parents were William and Elizabeth Smith. I have not viewed the actual parish registers yet.
