I'm looking for help regarding my 2x great grandparents children. They married 18 Dec 1855 in Portglenone 1st Presbyterian Church. I know by the 1911 scotland census that they had 11 children. 7 of which I got dates for through LDS all born in Portglenone, 3 I know of but have no dates & 1 I know nothing about.
The 3 are James born about 1856, John born about 1862 & Elizabeth born about 1867 (they had an Elizabeth born 9 Aug 1864 but she died between 1864-1867). The 1 I know nothing about, my family thinks could of been named Thomas as thats the only family name not used by them,
Any help on these 4 children would be fantastic.
Thanks
Liz

If you know which church your family attended, I would check their records for the children’s baptisms. Though the family married in Portglenone 1st P church, tradition was to marry in the bride’s church, so that may not have been the church the family subsequently attended. (There are 3 Presbyterian churches in Portglenone).
Statutory recording of births only started in Ireland in 1864 so for births prior to that you have to depend on church records. Many church records including those of the Presbyterian churches in Portglenone have been copied and are held in PRONI, Belfast. They are not on-line though.

For reference, here are the 7 children of John Richmond & Ellen Thompson found in LDS database (www.familysearch.org)-
Elizabeth Richmond born 9 Aug.1864 Portglenone dist. (page 108 in civil register)
William Richmond born 18 Dec.1866 Portglenone district (page 161 in civil register)
Joseph Richmond born 21 Aug.1869 Portglenone district (page 146 in civil register)
Daniel Richmond born 17 Nov.1872 Portglenone district
Robert Richmond botn 17 Nov.1872 Portglnone district
Mary Richmond born 9 Apr.1875 Portglenone district
William Richmond born 24 Mar.1879 Portcleuone [Portglenone district]
Portglenone is the sub-registration district and may not be the actual residence of the family. Portglenone is a town (not townland) divided by the River Bann which is in both County Antrim (Ballymena registration district, Ahoghill civil parish) & Co.Londonderry (Magherafelt registration district, Tamlaght O'Crilly civil parish).
Any children born before 1864 could also have died before 1864 which will make it difficult to find details about them.
As far as 'Elizabeth born about 1867' goes- where did you find her listed. I can't see a death registration for the one born 1864 so wonder if this could be the same child.

Thanks for replying.
This has been my problem. Elizabeth Richmond is my great grandmother.
The 1901 census & 1911 census records states she was 35 & 45 years old. And she was 49 when she died in Apr 1916. Going by these it makes her born about 1867. I know she married 12 Nov 1890 in Portglenone 2nd P Church, so this might of been the families church.

Almost all if not all the Thompsons were 2nd Portglenone church. There were little if any "Thomsons" in the area. The Thompson's were mostly from Finkiltagh.
Richmonds were all from around Killycoogan and things haven't changed much.
2nd Porglenone church was disused by 1898
Maybe you knew this but just in case, every little helps

Thanks Wildwind
The family knows nothing about the Thomson side of the family the only thing known from her death in 1914, Scotland is that her parents were Robert Thomson & Helen Aitken (Aiken).
The place names for the family from births & the census records for Ireland in 1901 & 1911 have been Finkiltagh, Portglenone, Lisnagarran, Kirkinriola & Rasharkin, but not Killycoogan.
My uncle has said most if not all of our Richmond's & in-law's moved to Ayrshire from the mid 1880's with the older member's of the family moving over after 1901.

The Richmonds are still alive and kicking in both Killycoogan and Aughnacleagh.
Lisnagarran district takes in a load of townlands.
Portglenone is a village but for the census like Lisnagarran takes in quite and area.
Finkiltagh, Portglenone and Killycoogan are all within 2 1/2 mile of each other. Rasharkin another village a little further. Kirkinriola is not one that springs to mind for the Thompsons. Dont know about the Richmonds.
Try me with some of the Thompson details even by PM if you wish.
I can confirm that both the richmonds and Thompsons were also present in 1936 as I have the records for the area.
There are also Richmonds from the Cullybackey side but as best I know they are the same family origin.
My GGrand mother McKeown was an Thompson

Hi,
3 Feb 1898 William John McKeown married Elizabeth Thompson in Portglenone First Presbyterian Church. The fathers' names were James McKeown and Adam Thompson.

Thanks again King, If ewblack can connect themselves in some way to that Thompson which I am almost certain they can then I have more of a chance to connect them to the area. Maybe not to the Richmond side but the Thompson's are my lot so I might have a remote chance.
As best I know the Aikens are all but disappeared from the area
Isnt it an awful pity we didnt have this available to us 20yrs ago when all those who would remember were still around
Again thanks.

Thanks,
I sounds as if my 2xg grandmother Ellen Thomson (Eleanor Tompson on her marriage) could be related in some way to your Adam Thompson.
I totally agree my parents were a wealth of information & stories about the families, I've got to go now with notes I've taken from aunts & uncles & what I could remember being told.

Am hoping you are still integrated in the Thompsons mentioned on here. The Adam Thompson mentioned was my great great grandfather . Please contact me by private message I can give you a fairly full tree from him
