Title: Question about a NZ death certificate
Post by: forefathers on Friday 12 October 12 08:34 BST (UK)
Hoping somebody can given me a definitive answer on this one.

I have been sent a New Zealand death certificate dated 1928. I am unsure how to interpret the answer given to the Question 17 "If issue living, state Ages of each Sex". See attached. You'll notice both males and females are in two groups, numbered 1. and 2. I am unclear what these groups imply. Two theories have been suggested:

a) That they indicate the children were from different marriages (which would be helpful to know);

b) That group (1) lists children born outside NZ and group (2) those born in NZ (which would fit the other facts known but not tell us anything more about the family).

If anyone can tell me for sure which is the case, I'd really appreciate it.

Hi Pete :)

I'd suggest the former scenario is more likely, certainly this is the way that offspring are listed on some of the Australian death certificates I have.

Hi there,

Are there TWO (or more) marriages noted for the deceased?

If so, does the answer to Q17 support the information given about the marriages and perhaps number them  (1) and (2), so that the children of marriage (1) are those listed as (1) at Q17 ....

Hoping my answer makes good sense,  I am looking at an NZ dc for 1910, the deceased was twice married, and there were children of each marriage.

May I also ask if you are looking at the NZ BDM Printout?  The Printouts seem to me to have a greater depth of detail on them.

Cheers,  JM (in NSW Australia, but with various lines  who were (some still are)  in NZ )

Hi Pete,

I have a 1988 Death Printout where the person concerned had been married twice, the issue was put down as e.g.

F.   A - 55, 56, 58 B. 34, 30   M. A 60  B. 29

"B" indicating that it was the issue of the 2nd marriage.

Hi Pete,

The answer is A). ;D

I'd look for a second marriage for your individual.

Thanks everyone, this could be a vital clue. Well, to be honest, any additional scrap of reliable information is welcome here.

I also noted on my 1988 Death Printout both marriages were recorded.
