Trying to find more about Jonathan Bruce (B1845?) and Johanna (Mcgrath) (B1839?) Bruce of Kinnitty, Offally. They had 10 children, Robert B1857- , Mary B1859-D1940, Anne B1860, John B1861, Hanna B1863-D1955, Samuel Caron (My direct link) B1865-D1941, Sarah B1867, Frances B1869, Johanna B1869, Anne B1872. All were born in Kinnitty. Samuel Caron moved to New Zealand and my line is from him. I am looking for Jonathan and Johanna's lines. Thanks Paul

Hi there,
I suppose the first thing is that Jonathon would have been born before 1845 as otherwise he would only have been 12 having the first child Robert !
Also the fact that you know the family were from Offaly, you should ask the moderators to move this to the Offaly board so you can hopefully get some people with some local knowledge.
In saying that Bruce is not what I would call an Offaly surname !
Was there ever any talk of the family originating anywhere else ?
Sarah and Anne I can see online
bruce births ofaly (https://familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bsurname%3Abruce~%20%2Bany_place%3Aoffaly~%20%2Bfather_givenname%3Ajonathon~%20%2Bmother_surname%3Amcgrath~)
What was Jonathon's occupation ?
I can't see any of these family members on the 1901 Irish Census - did they emmigrate too ?

Thanks Tara, Jack and Moderator for your help. I will follow up on your thoughts. There is no family to ask for clues, I am trying to do this from the 'mother' name on my birth certificate. Cheers Paul

That death record in Parsonstown, he was from Ballygaddy, Kinnitty, I checked the rootsireland record, it didn't say who was the informant only that he was married. He is the son of John (Jonathan and Johanna McGrath.
I went to find his marriage, he married Mary Davis in 1877, but, it says that his father was George, but he was from the same place Ballygaddy.
