I'm looking at Frank Winn b1877 Bengal India. In the 1891 census he is to be found living with his parents in Western Road Brighton.
I believe it's the same Frank Winn that I find a marriage in 1899 in Southwark, London to either Ada Townsend or Harriet Sarah Turner, but then cant find anything of them in the 1901 census.
In the 1911 census, on his own is Frank Winn, a warehouseman in Southwark, London. It looks as if someone other than Frank has filled out the form because at age it states about 40 but not certain, married but not sure for how long, then forgotten, it then shows he has two children and he was born in India.
I have then found a Jenny Winn married 11yrs with two children, Frank b1906 Camberwell and Reginald Charles b1907 Southwark, living in Terminus Road, Brighton. In the 1911 census.
As yet I've not sent off for any certificates to verify anything but I'm puzzled that I cant find any of them on the 1901 census, by the vague nature of the 1911 form for Frank and the name Jenny which doesn't seem to tie in anywhere.
Any ideas please.
David.

Hello,
Many thanks for your replies, this is quite strange, I search with Findmypast and cant find Frank Winn in 1901, cant find Jenny Winn and couldn't find Dean Street, Soho, London, in the end I have got them by just searching Dean Street, London, then I get six to choose from including Soho!!
Even searching simply for Winn, London. Showed several pages of Winns but failed to show Frank, very strange, however with your input I have filled the 1901 space in my search.
Once again thanks for your help.
David.

The marriage with Harriet sarah Turner shows his father to be John Winn, Army pensioner. address is 39 Queens Buildings. Frank is a warehouseman
They have a son Frank b 1905 baptised in Southwark. Address is 11 Avondale Square, Old Kent Road. Again Frank snr is a warehouseman

Frank Winn & Harriet Sarah are on the electoral register in Southwark in 1928 with Frank Jnr and Reginald Charles. Looks like Jennie & Harriet Sarah are one and the same

Hi David
I found them in 1901 using mygenealogist.co.uk, using the soundex search. The census has them as WYNN. The soundex search is just so good......
Best wishes

Hi All,
Thanks very much for all of the replies, I've found them really interesting and helpful, especially the later addresses and information which seem to show that for whatever reason they were living apart in 1911 it was only temporary, I also found that the house Jenny was shown in, in 1911 Brighton was just a short distance from some other Winn relatives, maybe even one of their houses for Jenny and the boys to have a holiday, who knows.
Having searched without luck for another marriage for Frank between 1899 & 1901, I too have come to the conclusion that Harriet and Jenny probably are the same person.
I still find it quite strange the way the 1911 census form for Frank had been filled out, but I guess it will just remain a mystery.
Thanks again,
David.

Hi debee7,
Believe the Frank Winn you are looking for was married to Jennie, not sure of spelling, but recall going to visit
as a child, with my grandmother Felicia Mabel at Du Cane Court in Balham, seem to recall they had 2 sons,
one attended my grandmothers funeral in Hove.
The time of our visit to Balham, would have been in late 1940s.
Hope this is of some assistance, Tryin

Hi dbee7
Further to my comment earlier today, you can confirm the information by looking at electoral register 1937.
The names are Frank J Winn and Harriet Sarah Winn
Living at
-
Living at EO2 Du Cane Court Balham London
This would confirm the findings of one of the previous reserchers ,
However I always remember them being called Frank and Jenny.

Hello Tryin,
Many thanks for your input, it is very helpful, I know that one of the boys had the given name Frank, I wonder if you can remember the other boys name and perhaps what job Frank senior was doing in the 1940s.

Hello David,
Sorry I do not recall Frank Sn sons names, the one who attended the funeral in 1966 took the opportunity
of calling to an address in Davigdor road Hove on business.
After the funeral we went to the home of another relative, May Williams nee Winn.
The house was in Southwick, it may have been Southview rd.
With regards to Frank Seniors occupation, I do not know, as it was so long ago, being a child Jenny's hair style made more of an impression.
Cannot be of more help this time.
Ann
