Title: John McCallum
Post by: jaymacel on Tuesday 09 October 12 12:09 BST (UK)
Hi,  My family had been told my grandfather went to South Africa and never returned. I have found a record :-

John McCallum Brass Moulder from Dumbarton Road, Govan arriving back in Southampton in 1929.

His mother and father were still living in Dumbarton Road in 1929.

Don't know were he went after his arrival.  He may have married again or left the UK. Anyone got any ideas?

Is it John McCallum b. 1886, apprentice brassmoulder, living at 49 Dumbarton Road, Govan on 1901 census with siblings and parents Adam McCallum and Catherine McLean?

Check deaths on Scotland's People first if I were you ... there are records for two chaps named John McCallum born +/- 1 year of 1886 in Govan ... so worth investigating who they were if only to rule them out
