I am wanting to confirm a christening in the ripon parish registers

looking for a George Lumley born abt 1743, he was the son of William Lumley and Rebecca Braithwaite

You have not given us much time!   Did you find the record on the IGI?  Was it an extracted record?   If so it is a fairly good source.  The original registers are at Northallerton record office so if you want a look up there you may have to wait for some time.  If you are near an LDS centre you can order the film to search for yourself.  They often have useful extra snippets in them.
