Hello, Could someone possibly see if there is a baptism record for a Walter George Smith in Finedon. I have two potential dates of birth. One is 1st May 1873 and one is May 1875. Father George Smith. I am trying to find confirmation of who his mother was because I have two names for his mother - Mary Brooks and Ellen Ann Blakewell.
Thanks
Katie

Hi again.
There is no baptism for an Ellen/Ann Blackwell at Finedon.
A possible marriage on freebmd in Dec 1865 of a George Smith
to an Ann Blackwell which would match The Mc census info.
It was not at Finedon.
No Smith baptists at all in Finedon C of E to George and partner.
They may have been Methodists.?

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the look ups. I am very confused now! I have his death certification - he died in philadelphia and his date of birth on there is 1/3/1875. However, the same document also lists his mother as Mary Brooks which doesn't appear to be correct going by the census'.
He was definitely born in Finedon along with his brothers and sisters - Herbert Edwin, Frank William, Martha Alice. Could it be that they weren't baptised?. With regards birth certificates there is a Walter George born in March 1873 in Northampton and one in June 1875 - neither of which match is death certificate which I'm not taking to be unreliable.
I'm 99% sure that the census' with George and Ellen are the right ones but I can't prove it without his birth certificate or baptism. Very annoying!!

Just had a thought - would it have been possible that his baptism was at Wellingborough? as on the census that is listed as the registration district?

Hi again Katie.
On the 1871 Census the parents are George and Ann, so as the
children match it is the 1865 marriage that seems to be correct.

As to being baptised it could have been in a Non-conformist Church
rather than C of E so still a possibility.
