Title: Help Please
Post by: dc44 on Thursday 04 October 12 02:12 BST (UK)
Can anyone identify where this cottage is in Hitcham, and if it is still in existence? Our family lived there around 1947

My Father worked on a local farm, and I remember that there was a stream in the back yard.

What a pretty cottage. Have you tried Google Streetview? I don't know Hitcham in Suffolk myself but I've had a quick look and it seems small enough to do a virtual wander around. You might just be lucky!

Since posting, I have discovered that it is called "Hospital Cottage",  Bury Road.

I have looked on Google Street view, but have been unable to locate it, which makes me wonder if it is still in existence, as I have also completed a Google Search.

Hitcham have their own website which lists lots of links re. parish council, etc. etc.

http://www.hitchamsuffolk.org.uk

I'm sure if you contacted one of those listed they'd be able to tell you if the cottage still exists.

I have received a reply from the Hitcham Historical Recorder, who has informed me that he has no knowledge of Hospital Cottage, but it could have been demolished and another building placed on the site, possibly at the beginning of Bury Road, and Balls Hill.

Thanks
