Hi
Liz I can't see any problem with WW1 records- they're available on National Archives site and once ordered are digitised and online for all to see - scars, false teeth, tattoos, chest measurements et al.
WW2 is different and I did have difficulty with my father's records as 25 years after he had left the Air Force it appears no-one in the family had informed the RNZAF that he had died! A death cert and a funeral notice was enough to resolve that problem!
Sorry Tina didn't think my haste would prove that confusing!
Tks

Anyone can go into Archives in Wellington and request that a WW1 file be digitised, these files are now in Archives and not kept by the Army,WW2 files are still with the Defence Force.
Cheers Janette

Something many may not know. Archway are about to make all WW1 records available free online in a few years time. ;D
Spades was kind enough to order one for me a month or two back, I wondered why it had not appeared online so I emailed Archives, their response was very quick saying they are working their way through every file, and my request was one of many which had been boxed ready to scan and make available.

SPADES I owe you ! Thank you very much indeed!
Thanks to everyone else that contributed to clarifying the issue. My undersatnding was as stated by others. My difficulty is living hundreds of miles from easy access to Archives.
Thankss very much once again!
