Title: Roberts
Post by: Quarryman on Monday 01 October 12 15:56 BST (UK)
Could anyone give me the parents of Henry Roberts, baptised Llanllyfni 7 September 1816.

Just broken through brickwall and eager to follow the new path.

Regards (and thnks) to all those who have helped me in the past when I was journeying down a cul-de-sac.

Hi,
On Family Search there is a Baptism for 1/9/1816 Llanllyfri,Caernarfon. Parents Owen Roberts and Jane Roberts.Could your date have been 1st as opposed to the 7th?.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the reply - I found two Henry Roberts on the IGI; one on the 7th Sept recorded as a 'baptism' , with no parents named, and one on the 1st Sept, recorded as a 'christening', with Owen Roberts as father.

I'd like to think the 7th Sept was mine, but I guess I will have to hunt out the parish register to confirm they were seperate baptisms/christenings.

Could be another blind alley for me.

Thanks again.

The 7th was the actual baptism record, image from original book. The baptism before was 28th Jul and after 22 Sept.It could be 1st but it looks like 7th to me and FindMyPast.I am confident which ever date it is your baptism at top of date columned it says when baptised that is why I dont call it christening.

Hi Isobelruss,

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Disappointed, but the search goes on for the parents of Henry Roberts (Henry Roberts Junior on his second daughter's birth certificate in 1839) born 1816. Not helped by having a pob on the 1851 census that is indecipherable/doesn't exist, and Llanlechidd and Llandygai on subsequent censuses.

The brick wall is back up again...

Regards

I,m just getting confused now.Who is Henry Roberts jur and who is the daughter you mention. Can you not give us a transcript of 1851 census and what you are looking for then we may be able to help you.We only have information from you to go on whereas you know what you are looking for. ???

HI
have checked the actual Parish Register entry and that in the Bishop's Transcripts. Found in the past that they don't always agree.
In the BTs it is clearly Sept 1st (the 'st' at the level of the top of the 1, not bottom as shown here).
In the PR September is written 'Sept', followed by 'br' at the level of the top of the 't' in 'Sept', followed by 1st, the 'st' again raised. The problem seems to have arisen because the 'r' in 'br' is attached to the top of the '1', making it look like '7'.
In both cases the '1' is followed by 'st' not 'th' as would be the case if it was the seventh.

As an alternative option,as he is referred to as Henry Roberts jnr at one stage,is it not likely his father was called Henry Roberts, and though the location is a litttle more distant there is

Henry Roberts - Llanbedr - born 04/11/1815,christened 12/11/1815 to Henry Roberts and Margaret Davies(Henry "jnr" names a daughter Margaret)

I assume the LLanbedr is Llanbedr y cennin?

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time and trouble to help. It really is appreciated.  It looks like I may have to give this one up.  Good luck in your own searches.
