Title: Edgar Challoner-born 1897-Chester,Cheshire
Post by: mr pinkwhistle on Saturday 29 September 12 17:22 BST (UK)
I am trying to find an Edgar Challoner born 1897 in Chester,Cheshire supposedly who is living with a Christina Kay(Challenor who is supposedly born 1878 in Chester,Cheshire-never found her birth certificate either)but have never found the relevant birth certificate. In 1901 he is  at 10 Ivor Road,Liscard,Cheshire. He is supposedly christina's nephew but there seems to be a lot of discrepancies with him.Can you find his birth index so I can order his birth certificate please and does anyone know what happened to him and Christina after 1901 as they simply disappear.Christina married a William Barker Kay in 1900 at Saint Marys,Liscard and there are lots of discrepancies in that marriage certificate also so I believe there is some sort of cover up or something but not sure what it is or why?

Hi,

Haven`t found his birth yet, but there is a service record for an Edgar Chaloner - next of kin Christina Hodgkinson - Mother of 9 Rundle Road, Aigburth, Liverpool.  The only thing is that he signed up 25th February, 1916 aged 22 years 2 months so the age is a bit out.  His occupation was Steward.

Seems like the right Christina in Aigburth:

Christina Kay, Widow, aged 30, married Gordon Hodgkinson, 29, Ships Steward, at St. Annes Aigburth 19th December, 1910.  Her father named as Timothy Chalaner (deceased) Gardener.

Right here goes-March 10th 1900-William Barker Kay,aged 21-Batchelor-Steward-unable to read residence  at that time,father-James Kay who was a Commercial Traveller.Christina Challenor is aged 22 on her marriage certificate, spinster and no occupation, living at 3 SeaBank Road,Liscard, father Timothy Chalenor,a fruit Grower and Deceased-Winesseses Samuel Evans and Betty Jones. I think though she is Christian Ann Chaloner born 1870 in Holt,Denbighshire as she is living at 10 Ivor Road,Liscard in 1901 and her sister Emily Chaloner?born 1878 in Holt,Denbighshire is resident at number 5 Ivor Road,Liscard in 1902.Emilys father was also Timothy Chalenor and a Fruit Grower on her marriage certificate in 1902 so I am sure there is a connection.I like the Edgar Chalenor theory of being a  Steward as that could be the right person as William Barker Kay was a Steward in 1901.

Oh I never thought of that!Thank you.i would love that final piece of the jigsaw which would link that Christina Chalenor to the Christian Ann Chalenor but the age is a bit of a nuisance as one is born 1878 and the other 1870.I am sure that it is the right person though!

She is in an orphanage but her mother is still alive in the same area at that time. Her mother was Ellen Chaloner(born 1833 in Bangor,Flintshire)Her brothers and sister Emily were still living with their mother in Holt,Denbighshire but she was in the orphanage for some reason. She was not illigitimate either.Always wondered why as the brothers were working?
