I would be most grateful for a look up in the Woolpit census of 1841 for the following family:
Robert Burt age unknown and birthplace unknown
Mary Ann Burt wife (around 20ish)
and any children.
There should be 1 definitely, Susannah.
Thanks a lot.

Thanks very much for your time and trouble, Nigels, not quite what I was expecting, maybe Mary Ann was away visiting parents with daughter Susannah. She didn't die until 1844 so must be somewhere fairly local.
Good searching and many thanks again.

Hi Alison. I am very interested in your query here. I have a very strange situation concerning the name Burt in Woolpit. For some reason my Allington/Ollington family seem to at times use the name Burt. I have no idea why and would love to find a connection between these families. Do you know much about the Burts from Woolpit? I am trying to fathom why my family are at times the Burt's. I am presuming the people you are looking for are Robert son of George and Charlotte Neptham married to Mary Ann Manning? I will try to find them in 1841 They should be there as there is Dau Harriet also by this time and Eliza will be baptised Woolpit in October. I have them in 1851 moved to Ipswich St Helen...Kris :D

Hi again Alison. I have them in 1841 finally. For some reason the family are not together on Census night. Robert Working perhaps. And there is another daughter also

Hi there Kris,
Fantastic! Well done for finding them in the 1841 and 2 daughters I did not know about!
As to your other query, that is very interesting about the alternative use of surname. However I am sorry I cannot help you here, the Burt connection via the daughter Susannah is one of my branches which I have found out very little about, other than the parents, Robert married to Mary Ann Manning which is on the IGI.
My connection is then via Susannah's husband, Walter Gibbons and so on and so on, so I am thrilled to find out about the Burt parents also and 2 more children. I do know via FamilyHistory Online that Susannah died in 1844 and was buried in Woolpit, presumably then the family moved onto Ipswich. Certainly Susannah and Walter lived there all their married life, until Susannah herself died relatively young in 1873.
I also have yet to pursue the Manning family line; however research is unending isnt it!
Very many thanks again

Hi Kris, I just noticed you mentioned yet another daughter, Eliza, was she born 1841 after the census?
Could you send me your info on the family from 1851, cos I am guessing, did Robert marry again after Mary Ann died 1844?
And were there any more children between 1841 and 1844?
Thanks again for your help.

OK Alison. Pity you don't know any more. I will try to help out with what I have. I have this family in my tree not through the Burts because I have no idea if these Burts connect to my Allingtons or not. The only census I had was the 51 till I tracked them down in 41 yesterday. The peculiar thing is I know nothing of the death of Mary Ann. All this certainly does not substantiate a death! ???
Baptisms To Robert and Mary Ann Burt
Susannah Baptised 30 aug 1835 Woolpit
Eliza 3 Oct 1841 Woolpit
Mary Ann 26 Feb 1843 Baptised 26 Mar 1843 Ipswich St Margaret

Now Alison I had assumed Susannah had died but ob not ehh...LOL....so had a look there is only one Susannah in the index though birth is listed as Ipswich. With no other Burts on the folio I presume she is working and perhaps her employers did not know of her actual pob

Might have to see if I can spot them in 61 and see if Mary Ann is still there.... Kris ??? ??? ???

Fantastic work again Kris! I am going to look back into my notes because you now have me doubting Mary Ann Burt's death!! ( in 1844). She is certainly on the burial register for Woolpit then but I am sure I have something somewhere else about her.
The Burt family in Ipswich in later censuses I have come across before and had wondered if they were related, certainly Mary Ann and I think Fanny appear in the 1881 census, together with Robert the younger plus family, all living in Ipswich.
Sorry I can't help with the Allingtons, I must also see if I can find out anything about the Mannings.
Thanks yet again for your very generous help

OK Kris here's what I have got
Susannah Gibbons is the aforementioned Susannah Burt, oldest child of Robert and Mary Ann and my great great grandmother, making Robert and Mary Ann my great great great grandparents.
You might find there are a whole lot more Burts buried in Woolpit.
Susannah GIBBONS 21 Mar 1873 37 Ipswich Cemetery
Robert BURT 27 May 1855 44 Ipswich St Nicholas Anglican
Robert BURT 6 Apr 1846 60 Woolpit St Mary Anglican
Robert Charles BURT 16 Jun 1890 2 Ipswich Cemetery
Mary BURT May 1851 inf Snape St John the Baptist Anglican
Mary BURT 28 Jun 1876 70 Snape St John the Baptist Anglican
Mary BURT 16 May 1848 38 Norton St Andrew Anglican
Mary BURT 23 Dec 1839 77 Cratfield St Mary Anglican
Mary Ann BURT 12 Jul 1844 24 Woolpit St Mary Anglican
Mary Ann BURT 2 Dec 1882 68 Ipswich Cemetery
I think I had always assumed Mary Ann Burt, aged 24 to be Roberts wife who died, but maybe she is too young....?

Thanks Alison. Alas not much I can put my finger on. Mary Ann died 1844 aged 24 appears to be your Robert's sister (She was not with parents in 1841 so I don't know-age certainly fits)...Robert age 60 buried 6 apr 1846 is my Mr Ellusive deciding to die as a Burt. Looks like your Robert buried 27 May 1855 Ipswich St Nicholas.
All the best....With Thanks....Kris :D
