I'm looking for a reference to my great grandmother Mary D'Alton or Dalton at the time of her marriage to John sheils or Shields in 1880 her address was stated as Dungannon town. She died in 1889 after giving birth to my grandfather.. I can find no family for her
-
Do you have her father's name from the marriage certificate and an approx date of birth?
-
I have nothing or no one on her side of the family. I think she was a roman catholic
-
The civil reference for her marriage is on www.familysearch.org which is free to search but you would need to order a certificate for full information which would include the father's name of the bride and groom.
It would also state where they were married and there is a slim possibility that a church record may also have her mother's name.
The reference (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FYQC-8PP) is Dungannon Oct-Dec 1880 Volume 1 Page 756
There is a cross match with a Mary Dalton and John Shiels

Thank you so much..I think I'll try parish records
-
If you apply for a cert from the GRO (http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm) you will receive it within days; it could take some time to access the parish records.
see note two on the application form; you can request a copy for research purposes for €6

this site should be of interest to you
Dalton Databank (http://www.daltondatabank.org/northernireland.html)
It has a reference to the marriage on: "9 Nov. 1880: Mary Dalton of John Dalton to John Shiels, shoemaker of Edward Shiels. Both at Dungannon Town, Dungannon RD"
There is an 1846 civil reference for a marriage of a JOHN DALTON (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FTBV-M49)
The match is either Elizabeth FRIZELL or Eliza Jane HUTCHINSON
This MAY be Mary's father/parents and worth keeping a note of

Thanks Myluck1, have previously visited Dalton databank, and saw a family Dalton in Dungannon.. If these are the correct family it would mean mixed marriage and I think they were married inst Patrick's church, Dungannon... I know she died July 1889 and is buried in coalisland graveyard. Thanks again for your continued info. It's all a help

getting the official records would be your next best bet as this will give you a direction to follow
Best of Luck

Hmm.
I have a ggg grandfather, John Quinn born in 1842 in Donaghmore to Edward Quinn and Mary Daltan.
-
There was a John Shiels born in 1859 in the parish of Clonfeacle to father Edward and mother Mary Devlin.
-
Gaffy .. That's the one I'm looking for.. Where did you find it... Thank you so much. John was my great grandfather ???
-
Hi Bannfee have you anymore info on Mary Dalton.. Was she from Donaghmore do u know. . Very interesting , thank you :D
-
No, that's really all I have.
Edward Quinn and Mary Dalton have two children that appear on the records in Donaghmore parish. Edward in 1839 and John in 1842. I also believe there's at least one more child Catherine born in 1840, but there is no birth record for her.

Thanks Banffee. I'm not too sure this is our family but prob because it's further back than Mary's birth, I'm thinking she was born around same time as her husband John.. 1859. However my grandfather always said he believed her to be from Cappagh.. But I can find no trace of D'Alton/Dalton in that area..
