Hello All,
I have hit a roadblock with my genealogy. I am looking for any information on a John Keefe b. about 1812 or 1813 in County Cork, who married a woman called Margaret Carroll (b.1816 also in County Cork.) They immigrated to St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada and had my great-great grandfather William Keefe, whom later settled in Buffalo, New York, but was buried in St. Catharines. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Jackie

Hi Jackie and welcome to rootschat !
Did John and Margaret get married in Cork and then emmigrate ?
What religion were they?
www.irishgenealogy.ie has some old cork church records online and for free but only rc ones
Was there parents of John and Margaret mentioned on their death certs (sorry I don't know what info is on Canadian certs) ?
Was there a townland mentioned on any census that you have them on ?
Obviously John and Margaret were born and married well before our civil registration began in 1864 so you need to look for them on church records.
The thing with this though is that you will need townlands to see if records for that parish still exist !

Hi Tara,
Thank you for your help. I know that William married a woman named Elizabeth Walsh from Canada. I am not certain that he had twin siblings Agnes and Richard, although I have them tentatively on my ancestry as such. William was born in Wales, but I don't know when his parents John and Margaret emigrated there. This is where I'm stuck!!!! :-\ I know they both were Roman Catholics. I haven't been able to get the death certs for John and Margaret. I'm located in Germany and haven't been back to the US for quite some time. Thank you so, so much! :)

Hi
We have Keefe's from Cork in our family. Mary Keefe was my gt gt grandmother on my mother's paternal side. One of her grandson's Michael Grady emigrated to the States under the name of Michael G Kieffe (I have his will and his daughter's (clara Kieffe Fanning) They lived and died in Warren County Pennsylvania. Also in the family are Sullivans and Morans. Does this mean anything to you

Hi Ancilla,
It could be a distant relation (cousin, aunt, etc.) I can only go back to a John Keefe and Margaret Carroll, but I can't seem to find a connecting Mary with my Keefes. Do you have dates or locations?
Cheers, Jackie

HI
Mary Keefe was around 1800 her son Michael Grady was born 1830 and his sister around 1840. Michael died in 1914 in Pennsylvania and his siter Mary married Patrick Costello and they lived in Clonmel Co Tipperary.I am not sure where in Cork they came from I am trying to establish that

Patrick Costello born 1834 married Mary Grady born 1842 on 28th Feb 1867 Fermoy, Cork
Grooms father: John Costello
Brides Father: John Grady
There is a Mary Grady baptised in 1841 in the parish of Castletownroche (which is near Fermoy) her parents are John Grady & Mary Keeffe
You could get that record from http://corknortheast.rootsireland.ie/
John Grady and Mary Keeffe were married in 1829 in Castletownroche RC also from http://corknortheast.rootsireland.ie/
They also had a son Patrick Grady baptised in 1844 in Castletownroche RC

I have a James Carroll who married Jane Gaffney(?) in my lineage. Their daughter was Johanna Carroll, my paternal great grandmother. We believe our Carrolls may have been from Cork but are having trouble locating info as well. Johanna Carroll migrated to the United States but we cannot locate immigration records for her but we believe she may have been here as early as 1892-1896. We are researching whether she was have immigrated to Canada firts. She also had a relationship/ marriage (although we cannot locate a marriage record to Robert Hodges of Wicklow. She used the name Hodges and her children as well. Do these Carrolls sound like anyone in your lineage?
