Hi All.. I'm trying to expand my knowledge of my grandfathers family . All I have is his name is Michael Muldoon b1900 d1960.. married Martha Cowap 28/7/1928 . His fathers name was Thomas and his mothers was Mary ( nee Cunningham).
From what information i have he had three brothers James ( b.1897 ) Denis ( b. 1899 think died very young ) Thomas ( b.1902 ) and one sister Mary ( b 1909 )..
Thats about it ... I'd be gratiful if anybody with more info or maybe a distant relation ??
could help me further my search..
Many Thanks .. Anthony

this is a link to the baptisms of James, Denis and Micheal MULDOON (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/search.jsp?namefm=thomas&namel=muldoon&exact=&name2fm=&name2l=cunningham&location=&dd=&mm=&yy=&diocese=&parish=¢ury=&decade=&sort=&pageSize=100&ddB=&mmB=&yyB=&ddM=&mmM=&yyM=&ddD=&mmD=&yyD=&locationB=&locationM=&locationD=&member0=&member1=&member2=&member3=&member4=&member5=&member6=&member7=&member8=&member9=&namef0=&namef1=&namef2=&namef3=&namef4=&namef5=&namef6=&namef7=&namef8=&namef9=&namel0=&namel1=&namel2=&namel3=&namel4=&namel5=&namel6=&namel7=&namel8=&namel9=&keyword=&submit=Search) from Irish genealogy
there is also a Cunningham birth where Thomas and Mary were sponsors
Civil Reference (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FYCN-CZW) for marriage of Thomas MULDOON and Mary CUNNINGHAM; order the certificate will give the names of their fathers and possibly addresses that may help
Death of Denis Muldoon (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FTDD-TW1)

Family on 1911 census (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Trinity_Ward/Moss_St_/93336/)
Thomas Snr is not listed in 1911 but Mary describes herself as married
She also states that she had 11 children with only 4 living
List of MULDOON deaths (https://www.familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bsurname%3Amuldoon~%20%2Bdeath_place%3A%22dublin%20south%22~%20%2Bdeath_year%3A1896-1911~&collection_id=1408347) in South Dublin 1896 to 1911
This includes
John born and died in 1898
Denis born and died in 1899
Mary Josephine born and died in 1903
Peter born and died in 1908
Kathleen born and died in 1908
which would be good starts in finding the missing siblings
Also included is a death in Jul-Sep 1901 for a Thomas MULDOON aged 26 Dublin South Vol 1 Page 451
which looks a good match for Thomas Snr.

Have you checked the census returns.
I did a quick search and this family seem to fit your names and dates.
Muldoon Family 1901
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0raq/
Muldoon Family 1911
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0rar/
from the 1911 census they say they have had 11 children in all, with only 4 still living. Even by the standards of the day, that's a terribly sad rate of infant mortality.

Hi All ..Thanks for your replies I did go through the 1901 & 1911 census thats where I got what little info I have ..
They seem to have been very unfortunate with their children not surviving very long is there a way of tying back the chilcrens deaths to my great grandparents ??..
Also the marriage referance for Thomas how do I know its the correct Thomas should there be a matching one for Mary Cunningham ?..
Can Thomas's death be linked back too ..
Thanks for all your kind help

Hi again
on looking at the census and the childrens ages I dont think Thomas's death in 1901 is the correct one ...

Hi there,
I think I may have something for you
I think this is the birth of Thomas Muldoon
thomas muldoon birth (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FGZ3-3TL)
This is a list of siblings to this Thomas Muldoon
thomas muldoon siblings (https://familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bsurname%3Amuldoon~%20%2Bany_place%3Adublin~%20%2Bfather_givenname%3Ajames~%20%2Bmother_givenname%3Amary~%20%2Bmother_surname%3Ajohnston~)
Cross referencing some of these births against irishgenealogy and the address Glouster Street crops up, which we know is where Thomas lived on the 1901 Census
more muldoon documentation (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/search.jsp?name2fm=&name2l=johnson&namefm=james&namel=muldoon&location=&dd=&mm=&yy=&submit=Search&sort=&pageSize=100&diocese=&parish=¢ury=&decade=&exact=&ddB=&ddM=&ddD=&mmB=&mmM=&mmD=&yyB=&yyM=&yyD=&locationB=&locationM=&locationD=&member0=&member1=&member2=&member3=&member4=&member5=&member6=&member7=&member8=&member9=&namef0=&namef1=&namef2=&namef3=&namef4=&namef5=&namef6=&namef7=&namef8=&namef9=&namel0=&namel1=&namel2=&namel3=&namel4=&namel5=&namel6=&namel7=&namel8=&namel9=&keyword=)
Defo looks like the same family to me and what is best of all is that there is the marriage of James Muldoon and mary Johnson in 1859 included !

Hi there,
I can't find the baptism of Mary Cunningham, but I'm nearly sure that I have her family -
I think her parents were James Cunningham and Catherine O'Reilly
On the 1901 Census in the same block of flats is a Nicholas Cunningham whom I'm sure has to be her brother, he's the same one that Mary was a witness at the baptism of one of his children !
nicholas cunningham 1901 Irish Census (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Trinity/Gloucester_Street_South/1310411/)
This is the marriage of Nicholas Cunningham to Jane Ward and this has his parents names which if I'm correct would obviously be Mary's parents too !
nicholas cunningham marriage (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/b43a930060182)
The reason why I think I correct is that Nicholas Cunningham's best man was a Peter Muldoon whom I think we can safely say is the brother of Thomas Muldoon, so the 2 families must have known each other.

Hi Anthony,
I can see you were working on your Dublin Cowap's at one point - are you aware that there are some prison records online for them, including Robert !

Anthony
The civil marriage reference for Thomas Muldoon has a match for Mary Cunningham
I would purchase the death certificate for the Thomas in 1901 as the age and location are correct if only to rule out - I know there were subsequent births but that could have occured or Mary could have remarried
-
Hi guys,
There are 2 deaths for a Thomas Muldoon in 1910 !
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FRNG-BWB
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FRNG-BW1
The second one I think is the better fit .....

Thanks Tara for keeping me on my toes!
There is a baptism of Nicholas CUNNINGHAM (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/b4bc3d0192753)
When you look at the marriage of Nicholas CUNNINGHAM to Jane WARD shown earlier by Tara; one of their witnesses is a Peter MULDOON
There is a marriage for a Peter MULDOON and Bridget ROBINSON (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/3ed9660062729) in 1903 which gives Peter’s parents as James MULDOON and Mary JOHNSTON which Tara also shows and does look good for a match
If there is a proven connection the marriage of James MULDOON and Mary JOHNSTON (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/4c195a0449126) is shown in 1859, unfortunately with very little information

all depends on your dates and which army... he was just about old enough to have fought in WW1, so the British Army.
If he was in an Army in Ireland after 1922 then maybe the Free State Army. You can check with Military Archives - see :

Hi Shane
Thanks for your reply ..I'm assuming its the Irish Army and prior to 1928 when he got married as his occupation is listed as labourer..
I'll have a look at military archives site now ..
Many Thanks ... Anthony

The Michael Muldoon you are referring to is my grandfather. I didn’t know him as he died before I was born. I did know his wife, Martha (my grandmother). She lived until I was 16. There is a rich and colorful family history for sure. I know a lot about the family, my mother was the oldest of their 11 children. Are you in the UK?
