Title: Soldier lact of info?
Post by: codge01 on Sunday 23 September 12 15:33 BST (UK)
I wonder if all might help in finding records etc relating to two relatives namely;

Great Grandfather, James Wooder b. 15/3/1879 Kilburn d. 28/5/1917 Etaples military cemetery 24th (132nd) Labour coy queens royal west surrey regt.

And my Great Uncle;

Alfred James Greening b. 24/5/1896 Hammersmith, the only military info I have regarding Alfred is that he stated his occupation on his marriage certificate December 1917 as Bombardier RFA.

I would appreciate any information available.

Greening:  a medal index card on Ancestry shows he was an acting bombardier in the RFA but also served in the Labour Corps.
These transfers were often caused by illness or wounds, reducing fitness for front line duties.
He earned the Victory and British War Medals, but not the Star, meaning that he did not cross to France until 1915 or later.
No sign of his records, or Wooder's on Ancestry.

Alfred J Greening's Labour Corps number (704120) puts him within the batch issued mainly to men who enlisted in 1919 for exhumation and reburial duties in France. (From "No Labour, No Battle")
