Hello All,
I'm trying to find out if the MacDonnells of New Hall, Co Clare were distantly connected to James II of Scotland & Edward I of England. I was told a while ago that there was a link, but don't know what it is.
Many thanks,
Bob

Hi
I hadn't heard of that link. Burke's Landed Gentry of Ireland (1912) entry starts with Daniel MacDonnell in Kilkee in 1671. Earlier versions of Burke often make unverified claims.
I can send you the 1912 entry if that's any help - just send mail address.
best regards

Thanks Gerry,
I've just seen that info, but thanks for the input - much appreciated.
Cheers,

My husband's mother was a McDonnell from County Clare - we don't know if they are related to the New Hall branch of McD's. Family folklore says they are descendants from Sorley Boy McDonnell - have not proved that either yet.
