Hi
From freebmd
Marriages December qtr 1932
James P Hoban /Emily W Oakes Leeds South 9b 991
Yorkshire BMD shows it as a registry office wedding so you would need to buy a copy of the cert to find his age and his fathers name
Do you know when & where he died as there is this death reg
James P Hoban aged 62 March qtr 1962 Birmingham 9c 329
Do you know his middle name?
From freebmd
Births June qtr 1898
James Philip Hoban Aston 6d 447
There appears to have been 9 female children born to this couple between 1933-1949 of which one died in infancy. Are any of the remaining 8 children still living who could provide you with more information

Hey, I'm trying to research this family too, from what I have found out.
James Hoban died in 1940 on the Lancastria, several of he children aren't his and the three youngest were registered twice, once under Hoban and once under Jones.

Thanks Carol, this does appear to be the family that im looking for, and wildeduck do you have any other info about the family and are you Jades cousin? by any chance?
trying to find out if the family originated from Ireland, if this is the case then they will be in my family tree too i think!

Yes I'm Jade's cousin. I know from Jade that James never came back from war and that her dad was registered in his name and not in his real dad's surname(Jones), from researching I found Peter's younger sisters were registered under both James Hoban's name and their father Walter Jones. Since Emily never remarried, the children were automatically registered in her husbands name.
I searched for James P Hoban from Leeds, in army records and found he died in 1940 on the Lancastria, so I assumed Mary and Coleen were probably not James Hoban's children either. His name was James Patrick Hoban. So I don't believe he is the same James Hoban from Aston, Birmingham as it looks like that James died in the 60's.
This is his death on roll of honour from findmypast

I found him on the Lancastria Victim list, it has a number near his name (37) which I'm guessing is his age. So I figure born in Leeds in 1903.
