Trying to find out if my Great Aunt was buried in Peathill like I thought she was.
I live in New Zealand, can only do so much searching on line.
The person I am looking for was Elizabeth (Bessie/Betsy) Doran m/s Ritchie, born 16 January 1895, in Rosehearty and died I think 21 Septmber 1971. She had seperated / divorced from her husband in the 1960's I believe, quite unusual back in those days.
I dont think she is buried with her parents, in Peathill, they were Joseph Ritchie 1860-1930 & Mary Ann Mitchell 1860-1904.
Any help, much appreciated.

If you look at the Aberdeen and North East Scotland Family History Society website, you will find an index to the people in the monumental inscriptions they have recorded. I'm sure Peathill is covered.

Hi GR2
Had a look at the MI's for Peathill, at the ANESFHS but nothing shows up in my searches.

Hi Dottie
Thanks for offering to check out the local newspapers, that would be very much appreciated. From another genealogy source I was sent a picture of her Headstone, and its definitely in Peathill.
Bessie Doran died 21 September 1971 in Aberdeen ( Hospital ??) as she had cancer I believe. Think the wider family would like to know what if any notice was in the paper. Also her sister, my Grannie, Jane / Jeannie May died in Fraserburgh Hospital 15 June 1971, not sure if you have access to those papers also.
Your help is much appreciated, as its very hard doing this type of thing from New Zealand. Maureen

She will be recorded by her maiden name, "Elizabeth Ritchie" not her married name.

If you look at the links to" Aberdeenshire resources" at the top of this page, you'll see (under Archives), a link to Aberdeen City Library. You can contact them by email & ask them to look up the local paper (The Press & Journal) for a death announcement. This should be quite straightforward, given that you know the exact date of death.
