Title: Henry Furnival - Runcorn, Cheshire
Post by: Captain2 on Saturday 15 September 12 14:15 BST (UK)
This is a bit of a long-shot and I appreciate that I may not get anything further with this couple until I order their marriage certificate, however I thought that I would try and post first.

Henry Furnival married Mary Hayes in the April-June qtr in 1933 at Runcorn, Cheshire.  Using free bmd I believe I may have a possible dob for Henry - 1905 - but could not trace anything for Mary ?

I would love to trace both sets of parents and move backwards with the couple.

As I said - a bit of a long-shot  without the certificate, but anything further would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Doran for your reply.  I shall hold that one on file.  If I can find Henry's death/burial that would help as it would perhaps give an age...

Elsie FURNIVAL married William HORTON in 1939 at Nantwich SS Mary & Nicholas....

Oh..that's really interesting.  I will have a look for Elsie Furnival's birth and see if that holds any clue.    Thank you.

Elsie was born in 1916-17 in Nantwich, Cheshire.  She may have a brother Henry and he is the one that has been found through probate however  I don't feel this is the Henry Furnival that I am looking for.  There is a 16 year old Henry (1911) living (and born) in Nantwich who is, I suspect, the Elsie's brother in question, so we go back to the most likely (before m. cert proof) candidate Henry (1905) born in Runcorn son of Joseph & Margaret.

Thank you again for all you input, it is much appreciated.

Henry and Mary were my late husband's parents.  Sorry but I cannot help further as I don't know a lot about their family history.

Hi Angie,

I’m also popping in on your post; sorry. I’ve not researched my Furnival ancestors too much as I have a number of distant cousins who have extensively done so, but my Furnivals were also from Runcorn at the same time as yours (and later, Warrington). However, I believe Furnival was a common surname in the area. My Warrington Furnivals are the ones who lost their tannery in an 1838 fire that “was seen for twenty miles around” (according to one report).  Might “your” Furnivals be the same ones?

Possibly not, but I thought I would just ask.  :)  Thank you, Lisa

Chat again soon

Hi Angie,

I’m actually currently researching my Stuart ancestors but I didn’t want to ignore your post.  So, there’s no rush to reply.   ;D

A bit of background…I know Runcorn is mentioned in my records; however, Warrington is most prevalent.  I have a John Furnival (born c1735) who died in 1820 in Warrington. His descendants were George (born 1771), John (born 1799), George (born 1826).

I have additional details about these folks and their families.  I’ve not checked in quite some time to see if any of the above has changed over the years.

Thank you, Lisa
