Title: Help decifering a surname
Post by: clairhaines on Friday 14 September 12 11:39 BST (UK)
Hello

I need help decifering the surname of an ancestor.

The attached file is from her marriage certificate.

I have also copied her fathers name, in case this helps.

Looking up Australia BDM, her death certificate has her as "Hassettt". But I dont think this is right.

She was born in 1845 in County Clare, Ireland.

Thanks

Clair

Hi Clair  :)

Mary Hassett

Roger Hassett

Anne Minogue

Was it the spelling that made you think this was not right? (Don't be put off by the now archaic way of writing ss-  even though it does look like another letter!)

Cheers, Ann

'ss' which looks as if written as 'fs' is known as long s-
