Title: Orphanages in Somerset 1900's
Post by: beejaysbaby on Wednesday 12 September 12 12:13 BST (UK)
Have a John Smith, bus driver in 1901 census, age 35, of Clevedon, Somerset with wife and several young children.  Doesn't appear in 1911 census and said to have died in accident. Children put into an orphanage possibly sometime after about 1903. Looking for names of orphanages where they may have been placed.
Any information would be appreciated.

There was an orphanage for boys in Clevedon, belonging to the Church Extension Association founded in 1893.

Possibly Nore House, Portishead?
Or the National Nautical School, also Portishead?

I believe Nore House was run by, or records kept by, The Children's Society?
