Please could someone who has access to the marriage records for all Saints Church, Maidstone, Kent see if there is any added information for marriage of Richard Barnard to Ann Taylor on 22nd September 1829. It would appear that two Richard Barnard's married Ann's.
Richard Barnard married Ann Jane Spacey, widow, nee Toweraker in Bermondsey in 1837 and I think he may be the wrong Richard!

Hi there
Found the church certificate for Richard Barnard and Ann Jane Spacey
marrying on the `10th December 1937.
She is a widow but it states he is a Batchelor which he would not be
if he had married Ann Taylor unless he was having people on.
It states he is a Mariner and his Father is called Samuel Barnard.
Do you know what Richards occupation was and if his Dad
was Samuel?
If not, then as you say its not the correct one.
regards Sandymc

They have a Married Son Richard born c 1831 Deptford
Richard Snr is a Waterman/Lighterman.
HO107/1585/46/24

Richard BARNARD, 36, Lighterman
Ann, 35

If this is your line Sarahs Birth Cert would confirm Ann Maiden Name.
It is likely to be Taylor as Richard is born before the 1837 Marriage.

Just to confuse the issue, both Richard Barnard's were Watermen and both in the Deptford area.
Richard Winstone Barnard born 29th April 1801 was apprenticed to his brother Thomas 1816 and made a Freeman of the Waterman's Company 4 March 1824. The other Richard Barnard was apprenticed to Isaac Jesson 8 February 1821 at Deptford but did not complete apprenticeship and became a Mariner instead. This is the one married Ann Jane Spacey (nee Toweraker). It is the wife of Richard Winstone Barnard I am trying to find.
I suspect they are related, maybe first or second cousins.

Hopefully someone can look up the 1829 Marriage and Witnesses may shed some light on this for you :)

This is the transcription of the 1829 marriage:
1829 Sep 22 Richard BARNARD Widower Otp & Ann TAYLOR Spinster Otp
By Banns, Witnesses: Tho. Sanders, Thos. Smith
As it says he is a widower I looked for another possible marriage at All Saints, Maidstone:
1821 Jan 28 Richard BARNARD Bachelor Otp & Philadelphia CORK Spinster Otp
By Banns, Witnesses: Wm Beale, John File
There were 4 other Richard BARNARD marriages at the church during the 18th century, coincidence or did the family come from the area and they were forebears. Something more to consider?!

Thank you so much scintilla. Much appreciated. The possible first wife Philadelphia has an unusual name. There must have been a fascination with America some where in the family. Richard's only child to survive to adulthood was named Richard John Mayflower Barnard. There were Barnard's among the early settlers in America and a Rev.Bernard was involved in the planning of "Mayflower".
Sounds intriguing but impossible to follow up.
