Maybe she married twice?
There's this marriage:

Edmonton district vol 3a, page 607
Hughes, Bertha
+ and on the same page +
Bridge, Aaron
Clark, Frederick Nat
A public tree on Ancestry has this marriage for her.
-
What year was her death?
-
I can't see her birth registration.
Did you have her certificate?
-
Odd.

Looks like Aaron lived till 1945.
He apoears to be living with a Bertha up until 1936 (electoral rolls).
What was Bertha's 1937 death showing as usual address?
If she was a widow, it usually states the widow of (Name , Occupation)
What name notified?
I see Percy George Steward was the executor.
Most likely correct PGS has a Elsie May S registered at same voting address.
-
thanks for your help ,but who was aaron her adress when she died was 200 silver street edmonton and i believe her late husban who died in 1932 was john steward her cousin ellen was married to a john steward i wonder if she married him after ellen died ,but i cant find when that was .
-
Aaron was , we think, Bertha's husband.
That's because of the marriage we found in September qtr 1891.
A public tree on Ancestry has Bertha's marriage to Aaron Bridge on 10th September 1891.
-
at last we are finding information on bertha albina when she died in aug 1937 she was buried whith her husband john steward her sousin ellen hughes was married to a john steward berthas john steward died in 1932 /john and ellen were still married on the 1911census there son percy did the probate
-
As you say, Bertha Albina Alma Steward died in Edmonton on 28 Aug 1937.
Letters of administration were granted to Percy George Steward - who was John and Ellen's son, born & baptised in Edmonton in 1894.
Could the same John who was married to Ellen later have married Bertha?
(Added: sorry I see they can't actually have married given that Ellen outlived John).
-
In 1936 electoral roll,
Aaron&Bertha bridge were at 2 Penn St, Angel road ward, Edmonton
Percy George, & Elsie steward were at 96 park Lane, London silver Street ward.
At 200 silver Street, was
Ellen steward
Frances Emily steward
Rose Ethel steward
Ernest steward
-
The 200 Silver Street, Edmonton address showing for Bertha at the end of her life was the address of John and Ellen in more than one census.
-
What was the USUAL address on the death certificate?
Who was she shown as the wife/widow of?
-
JUST to eliminate .
The OTHER Bertha Albina (Morley) appears to have wed Albert Edward Butler in 1894 Cambridge,
but I can't see them in census.
-
??? So who was the Bertha A A BRIDGE who died in Edmonton March Qtr 1952?
Maureen
-
As far as I can tell, we have not yet found a marriage for Bertha Hughes to a Mr Steward?
So, are we chasing the wrong Bertha?
-
I think we are chasing the right Bertha but she was lawfully married to Aaron Bridge and never married a John Steward (although a John Steward was married to her cousin Ellen at his death) although she was apparently buried with John. Why her death was registered in the name Steward, and on what basis letters of administration in relation to her estate were granted to John Steward's son Percy, are currently unexplained.
-
The 1911 census has Aaron Bridge with his wife Bertha Almasphere Bridge?!
It's the only Bertha I can find, who was born in Helions Bumpstead.
-
Hi

Aargh.
I see that Maureen had also picked up on the 1952 death.
So: is the 1937 death of "Bertha Albina Alma Steward" in fact that of Ellen Steward? With some funny business going on?
Can Ellen be traced alive after 1937? (Or a separate death found)?
Who was the informant on the 1937 death?

Deaths Sep 1937
Steward Bertha A A 65 Edmonton 3a 703
For those who have not seen them, here are the probate register details corresponding to this death registration:
STEWARD Bertha Albina Alma of 200 Silver-street Edmonton Middlesex* widow died 28 August 1937 at North Middlesex County Hospital Edmonton.
Administration London 4 December 1937 to Percy George Steward grocer's manager.
Effects £92 15s 1d.
*This address was the address of John and Ellen Steward from (at the latest) 1901. They are still there together in electoral rolls up to 1931. John is thought to have died in 1932. Ellen Steward still appears there in the electoral roll of 1936. They had a son called Percy George Steward (among other offspring); when Percy married in Edmonton in 1915 he was a grocer's assistant, of 200 Silver Street, son of John Steward, carman.
-
??? So who was the Bertha A A BRIDGE who died in Edmonton March Qtr 1952?
Maureen
dont think this is the right bertha as she died aug 1937 aged 67
-
There's no documented evidence in marriages that the 1937 death is the woman born as Bertha albina Hughes.
I'm really at a loss to see why you are convinced that she is.

You'll see from earlier in the thread that the marriage of Bertha Hughes to Aaron Bridge took place in the September quarter of 1891, so it was after the 1891 census.
Did Percy state his relationship to the deceased on Bertha Albina Alma Steward's death certificate? Have you identified in what capacity he obtained letters of administration in respect of her estate?
Have you traced Ellen Steward after 1937?
