My 3 x gt grandfather John Green HENWOOD of Padstow m. Jane BRENTON at Little Petherick 16 Dec 1822. Any relatives out there?

I am also related to John Green Henwood through his son Francis Henwood who travelled to Australia and married Mary Yule in 1855 in Melbourne Victoria.
I do have some more information I can share with you.

Delighted to get your reply. My line is through Francis's brother William who was one of the first maritime pilots at Padstow. I had no idea what happened to Francis so your reply is most welcome. As a newby to Rootschat, I haven't clocked up enough posts yet for you to pm me so I'll need to get working on that but will look forward to hearing from you.

Francis Henwood died 1922.

Thanks for the link ref aliases. In John Green Henwood's case I believe illegitimacy a generation or so previously could be behind the use.

Hi I am related to the Henwoods in Little Petherick although there seems to be a little confusion as to whether my John Henwood which would have been my 3rd Great Grandfather married an Elizabeth Whale or Pascoe. This seems to be the biggest problem where names are passed down. My 2nd great grandfather William Henwood 1801- 1876 was married to Catherine Caddy. So it would be interesting to compare your John Henwood with mine.

Many thanks for your reply. I am building my family tree on Ancestry and without actually looking at the original certificates there is some confusion as to which John Henwood is our "John Henwood". We have the same problem with William Pope there are several of them as well. I would just like to clarify if the Elizabeth was Whale or Pascoe. Do you know if you can access old births, etc. in the Truro register office. Ia m also a member of Cornwall Family History but they only seem to have baptisms which rarely state the date of birth. Any help would be appreciated.

John HENWOOD, Bachelor of St Martins Parish
Elizabeth WHALE, Spinster of St Austell Parish
Witnesses Joseph and Richard Martyn
Now Kitty and Stephen Henwood were Witnesses to William/Janes 1833 Marriage.
When Kitty married Samuel HONEY, Widower, in 1843 she named her Father as JOHN Henwood, Occp Bargeman.
So from Census William Henwood is born c 1801=1803 so born before the Marriage of John Henwood to Elizabeth Whale.
1841 in Little Petherick we have;
John Henwood, 65, Bargeman
Elizabeth Henwood, 60
James Henwood, 20
Catherine Henwood, 15
All born in County
Burials;
St Petroc, Little Petherick
ELIZ'TH Henwood 11 Aug 1842 age 62 (birth c 1780)
JOHN Henwood 15 July 1851 age 76, ( birth c 1775) died suddenly. Also known as GREEN
1851 Census John is born c 1775 St Ervan.

That's where I have my problem, I am 100% sure which John Henwood is my 3rd great grandfather. Whichever one it was had a son William about 1801, born Little Petherick. He married Catherine Caddy and they are buried with my great Uncle Thomas Henry Pope possibly in Little Petherick.
