Alf,
I've just started putting the wife's tree on computer and I've found an Esther Tudor born 1806 in Slimbridge. According to the IGI she married a George White(wife's line) 23 Feb 1830, it also say's that she died 29 June 1845. George then married a Esther Brazington b1811 on the 14 Sept 1845!. Have you come across this Esther Tudor?. As I say I've only just started on her tree although we've had it in paperform for 10 years. At the moment I can't find any children for Esther Tudor & George White. I live in Gloucestershire and know there are Tudor's still in Slimbridge.
Regards
Jim

Dear Alf,
The Tudors like the Hazells and the Wilks turn up during the last 200 years or so anywhere along the length of the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal. There were a lot in Slimbridge hence the Tudor Arms adjacent to the canal and the Tudor Caravan park nearby.
My own connection to them is through the marriage of Ann Tudor (daughter of Daniel) to John Wilks in 1854. Daniel's father was Henry and he worked as a labourer on building the Canal which opened in 1827. In 1928 6 generations of my family had thus worked on building or maintaining the canal - there is a short press article in the Gloucester Journal dated May 28th 1928 giving a little more detail. Let me know if you want a copy. I also have a number of Census copies relating to Tudors if you would like them.
John, like Daniel at the Patch, worked as a Bridge Keeper but he was based at Hardwicke. Robert Tudor was also a Bridge Keeper at Sellars Bridge further up towards Gloucester serving for 35 years and dying in service at the age of 64 in 1868.
Best wishes
