Born 1897 in Melbourne, married Vera Marion Lott possibly in 1925 and died 1979. According to the electoral roll he was living in Camberwell in 1977. Looking for where he is buried and hopefully ascertaining the same information about his wife Vera also please.

Austin died at Caulfield and pre-deceased VERA.
Therefore you might try Brighton Cemetery as it is in the Caulfield vicinity.
You will have to contact staff there as there is no online search for Brighton.

Hi All,
I am related to this family through James Francis Mcdonald. I have a lot of information about the McDonald line but very little about his three children with Mary and their descendants. I would like to make contact with family members if possible.
Kind regards
Kate

I think the family [Francis James and wife Mary and three chn] has already been researched. I can recall finding an obituary for Mary however much of the information could not be validated eg marriage in 1893, death of husband etc. I did find a birth for Reginald in Tasmania in 1888 well before the 'marriage' in 1893. I doubt there was a marriage. Mervyn's birth registration could not be found either.
Just to save any duplicate searching.
Hopefully Jessies Mum will be along to respond.

Hi Cando,
Yes you are correct. I replied to the wrong thread but as Austin Paul was the son of James Francis and Mary Jane its not totally off topic. Jf and MJ were married in Tasmania 10 Feb 1886. James Reginald Lawrence McDonald was born to them in Launceston 5 Sept 1888, Austin Paul was born in 1897 in Victoria. Im assuming that Mervyn who was their eldest, born in 1887, was born in Tasmania. I have not been able to find a birth record for him. James Francis was found drowned in the Yarra River on the 12 June 1903. I have been unable to learn anymore about the circumstances of his death, albeit the family always thought it was suspicious and that he had been thrown from a bridge. I have his death certificate but do not know how to access a coroners report or inquest if there was one. I have also not been able to find any information about James Reginald. In his mothers obituary it remarks that he was living in Melbourne and refers to him as Reginald not James. Would love any help.
Kind regards
Kate

Apologies...found the marriage under MCDONNELL however a lesson that one should take information in obituaries with a grain of salt.
I have his death certificate but do not know how to access a coroners report or inquest if there was one.
Should be noted on his death certificate about the inquest under the heading cause of death.

In case there are others who wish to help :) I note the indexes have Mary Jane McDONALD
The Examiner Launceston 9 Nov 1940
OBITUARY MRS. M. J. McDONALD
The death occurred after a short illness at the Currie Cottage Hospital on Tuesday night of Mrs. Mary Josephine McDonald. She was aged 75. Mrs. McDonald was born at Westbury, Tasmania, her former name being Mary Josephine O'Beirn. She married James Francis McDonald, of Westbury, in 1893. After her husband's death in 1902 Mrs. McDonald returned to Tasmania with her youngest son Austin and took charge of the St. Leonards Hotel. In 1905 she went to King Island and accepted the position of postmistress at Currie - an office which she filled for nine years. After her retirement Mrs. McDonald lived in Currie. She was a foundation member of the C.W.A. on King Island, and worked untiringly in the interests of the Roman Catholic Church. Mrs. McDonald leaves three sons Mervyn (Puckapunyal, Victoria), Reginald (Melbourne), and Austin (King Island).
On Wednesday afternoon Rev. T. Murphy, of Wynyard, conducted a short memorial service at the Roman Catholic Church, Currie. After the service the cortege proceeded from the church to the Currie cemetery.
Cheers :)
