Still trying to prove marriage of John Ashby 1570 - 1648, to Marianna Poyntz 1570 - 1650. Married in St. Denys Church, Rotherfield in 1591. John was a local, but I believe Marianna was born in Iron Acton, although I cannot find any record for her there, or in any Poyntz family trees. Thanks in advance. Alan.

There is no John Ashby marriage in Rotherfield at that time on the Sussex Marriage Index though there are some later ones. There are only three Poyntz ones in total - one in Angmering, one in Redhill and one in St Martin in the Fields. Obviously not a Sussex name! Quite a lot of Pont/Ponts though.

Thanks Andrea, Oh well, back to the drawing board ! ::)

Where did you get the information originally? The Rotherfield registers are on the IGI so if you can find an extracted record there it might help. Avoid the member submitted - or at least treat them with caution. You can order the film to search at your nearest LDS family history centre too.

If you are a member of the Sussex Family History Group then their databases have various Poyntz entries.
There are also a lot on the National Archives A2A site. Do advanced search and restrict it to South East region and you get 241 hits. Worth trawling through.

Hi
I am a desendant of john ashby of Rotherfield, I have traced my line of forefathers back to John born 1570. I would be very interested in any info about him and any other connections to him.
I have recently visited Rotherfield and the local Ashby sites in sussex, and would like to build a picture of my ancestors life and history.
look forward to any info.
regards
