Post by: wow123 on Thursday 06 September 12 14:21 BST (UK)
Anybody have any knowledge of a Duffy family in Sherriffs Mtn circa 1866-I have a marriage record from 1866 of a John Black marries a Matilda Duffy in St Columbs-Matilda(Martha) and John are in 1901 census but cant seem to find any trace of her family. her father was a Thomas Duffy and they are listed as COI
thanks

Hi,
In the Griffith's Valuation (1858 for Co. Londonderry) the only Thomas Duffy which I can find lived in Ballyclose St. Limavady

Hi Again,
I also notice that there were two Thomas Duffys in Co Donegal in 1858, one in the parish of Lettermacaward and the other in Muff.

Regards

Thanks not too sure if that is him but will take a look at it-there were Duffys on Whitehouse Road(i think) in Griffiths but not a Thomas and not too sure that this would be considered Sherriffs Mountain-wondering is the COI accurate-cant see any 1901 census COI Duffys

Hi,
My source shows the marriage in St Columbs Church of Ireland on 14 Nov 1866 with the bride's father as Thomas and the groom's as John Black.

What sort of marriage record do you have? civil record lists residence of bride and groom at time of marriage and does not give religion of either of them.

Added- marriage certificate should also list fathers' occupations.

Some pay websites have a nasty habit of 'giving' a religion for the bride and groom- always that of the church where the marriage took place.

What were the fathers' occupations?

A man who might be able to help at the Cathedral is Ian Bartlett.

If you don't get anywhere soon let me know and i will ask Ian as he has been helping me with something else.
